Ahoskie Police Department Criminal Investigation Division began an investigation following a report of shots fired and property damage.

During the course of the investigation, detectives developed leads that led them to contact 18-year-old Jikeveyon Ahye Mitchell of Washington, North Carolina.

Mitchell was arrested on an outstanding warrant and subsequently charged with one count of Felony Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Co***ne, and Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Firearm.

Mitchell is confined at the Hertford County Detention Center and held without bond, due to pending the charges.

We commend the Ahoskie Police Department Criminal Investigation Division for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to conducting thorough investigations and helping keep the community safe.

Ahoskie Police Department Fun Day & Backpack Giveaway

The Ahoskie Police Department’s Fun Day & Backpack Giveaway was truly an incredible day!

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this event exciting, memorable, and meaningful for all of the wonderful children in our community.

Your kindness and generosity helped make this event a tremendous success!

It truly takes a community coming together to make a difference, and we are blessed to have so many individuals and organizations willing to give their time, resources, and hearts to our children.

Your contributions not only provided backpacks and fun-filled memories but also reminded our children that their community cares about them and believes in their future.

**PRESS RELEASE**

Ahoskie Police Department Larceny Investigation

In July 2026, the Ahoskie Police Department officers and Criminal Investigation Division began investigating a series of larcenies that occurred throughout the Ahoskie area involving the theft of numerous tires, wheels, and lug nuts from vehicles.

During these incidents, the tires and wheels were removed from the vehicles, and the vehicles were subsequently left sitting on cinder blocks.

After further investigation and the collection of substantial evidence, the Criminal Investigation Division developed 22-year-old Da’Kias Futrell, of 435 Bryantown Road, Rich Square, North Carolina, as a suspect in the larcenies.

On August 12, 2026, warrants were obtained charging Futrell with nine counts of Felonious Larceny. The warrants were served on Futrell on August 13, 2026.

Futrell was already confined at the Northampton County Detention Center on charges related to similar crimes. Futrell is being held with no bond due to pending charges.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Ahoskie Police Department officers and Criminal Investigation Division for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work throughout this investigation.

Their commitment to pursuing those responsible for these crimes and protecting the community is greatly appreciated.

**PRESS RELEASE**

Ahoskie Police Department Robbery Arrest

On August 13, 2026, at approximately 12:50 p.m., officers with the Ahoskie Police Department were dispatched to Cali To***co and V**e Shop parking lot in reference to a reported robbery.

After further investigation, officers determined that the suspect, 22-year-old Camelo Qamika Pope, of 152 Blake Drive, Rich Square, North Carolina, was armed with a firearm when he allegedly demanded that the victim surrender his firearm. The victim was not injured during the incident.

A description of the suspect and the vehicle involved was immediately disseminated to law enforcement personnel.

The Ahoskie Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division quickly located the vehicle and determined Pope’s whereabouts. Pope was subsequently found hiding inside a closet in a fetal position at Pinegate Apartments, Apartment #104.

Pope was arrested on outstanding warrants for two counts of Possession of a Firearm, in addition to being charged with one count of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, one count of Larceny of a Firearm, and one count of Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

Pope is being held at Hertford County Detention Center without bond due to a pending Armed Robbery charge.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the officers of the Ahoskie Police Department, the Criminal Investigation Division and the Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work.

Their swift response and commitment to protecting our community are greatly appreciated.

** PRESS RELEASE**

On August 5, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers with the Ahoskie Police Department were dispatched to the area of N. McGlohon Street and W. Richard Street in reference to a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers learned that an adult male had sustained a gunshot wound and had been transported to ECU Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

The victim was later airlifted to an undisclosed hospital, for further medical treatment.

This incident remains under active investigation. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Ahoskie Police Department at (252) 332-5011.

The Ahoskie Police Department will proceed with its scheduled Guns Down Prayers Up Event on May 2nd, rain or shine.

All vendors will be set up inside the Ahoskie Gym.

Weather permitting, the march will begin at 10am from the intersection Railroad Street and Main Street and proceed to the Ahoskie Gym.
