Today we had the opportunity to share what it takes to become a Marine at the Youth Challenge Academy Hilo. An ammo can lift challenge was conducted where cadets were able to some Marine Corps swag.

I look forward to working with those who will take on the of becoming a Marine!

Before you can lead as a Marine Officer, you must first fight to become one. At Marine Corps Officer Candidates School (OCS), mind, body, and character are put to the test to evaluate your capabilities as both a fighter and an officer. No candidate at OCS will earn the officer commission they seek without demonstrating they can meet the standard found in our motto, Ductus Exemplo, “Lead by example.”

Officer Selection Station San Diego hosts it’s annual warriors’ feast. A pool functions to celebrate the young men and women who successfully completed OCS this summer and provide a platform for them to share their experiences to ensure those who follow are set up for success.

Not all of us grew up fitting into a group or clique, but those select few who commit to something bigger than themselves find a place to belong. A letter came back from one of our Big Island Recruits, and where he struggled to find a sense of belonging, the Corps became that for him.
