Andrea Gregory Aiken City Council District 5 Andrea Gregory-Aiken City Council District 5. A passion for...Aiken Values, Aiken Tradition, and a responsible Aiken Vision.

Andrea Gregory has served in and around the community for over 27 years, holding a variety of roles and titles throughout her career. However, the first thing her friends and family will tell you is that she has never forgotten about the culture, tradition, and history that make our beautiful City of Aiken what it is. Andrea believes that at the forefront of every decision should be Aiken's cultur

e, tradition, and history. She is committed to "controlled growth", fiscal responsibility, and a sound business approach to decisions. She values transparency in our city's dealings and an opportunity for the citizen's of Aiken to be heard and their feedback and input be valued. Andrea Gregory has set her standards high, and will not stop fighting until a proper balance has been reached. Andrea brings a lot of business experience to the table. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina -Aiken. Andrea began her career in the finance industry and helped community citizens with various financial programs. Eventually, Andrea wanted to do more with her career. She embarked and worked for United Rentals, a Fortune 500 company. Andrea was instrumental in launching and supporting various successful government and national account procurement based programs that were directly related to infrastructure projects across the country. The projects were both in private and public sectors. Acquiring contracts and managing these contracts taught Andrea the bidding and budgetary aspect of the business. This experience allowed United Rentals to establish many federal, state, and municipal Government Infrastructure based programs and projects. Many of which she negotiated, directly. Andrea has worked directly with the following federal agencies: DOE, DOD, DOI, DHS, to name a few. She has visited approximately 80% of our country's military bases and was blessed to travel our beautiful country through this opportunity. These various opportunities have developed different passions for Andrea. Our Military Men and Women are near and dear to her heart. Not only is her brother a 24 year veteran that has deployed many times, her two nephews and niece are, too. Andrea's nephew was injured during his deployment in Afghanistan, which was devastating to the entire family. Andrea made it her mission to work and help raise money for organizations like AWP to support our military families. Andrea serves and has served on various boards and community based positions (i.e. educator, tennis coach, Aiken Senior Life Services, ARTS Commission, Woodside Plantation Country Club, ACTS, to name a few...). Andrea says that teaching was the most humbling position she has held. She says teachers hold a very special place in her heart and admitted to teaching as a very difficult and emotionally involved career. She believes that teachers and administrators need our community's support and that, in turn, will impact our youth in a positive manner. Our youth is key to our community's future. Did someone say CHICKEN?!
House of Raeford. A hot topic in the last week. I am sure the operation is the best of its kind. Technology is always improving and kudos to this company for investing in new technology for all parties involved. WITH THAT SAID…David, House of Raeford engineer, said himself that it was not possible for them to guarantee that this technology will work 100% of the time and everyday. They try to aim at 100% no odors, issues, etc…but they can’t guarantee it as sometimes this can change and issues do come up on any given day. It’s not appropriate to mislead our community by stating this is a 100% perfect operation. It’s not. No operation or industry is 100%. Especially when dealing with so much waste.
Also, let’s not lose sight of City of Aiken’s most precious resource. WATER. This company’s water consumption will be an estimated 34 million gallons per month. Other questions…effects on water capacity? sewer capacity? How much bio-hazard is actually coming into sewer systems and the treatment plant once they “treat” the waste on site? How is this going to affect future development, growth in that area, property values, etc…? Furthermore, the 900 jobs this industry is promising will not be solely for Aiken County. This is an overinflated number. The biggest issue…we need to charge MORE if this is destined to happen. The water rate offered is not enough. What IF an issue occurs and the city or county are held liable vs. the industry? This scenario has happened in other communities. We need a contingency fund for potential issues. This means we have to charge more. Most city’s charge more for this type of industry not less. I will not support the current item as it reads this coming Monday evening. Our community deserves better. Better information and more time to address concerns with their leadership. I asked to push the meeting out two more weeks and it was denied. Please come to the City Countil meeting on March 25, 2024. 7:00pm. Ask your questions and state your concerns.
Thank you.

The city of West Columbia is losing patience with House of Raeford Farms, a long-standing chicken processing plant on Sunset Boulevard.

I am hearing a lot of feedback and speaking to citizens that are choosing to disregard the recommendations given by the CDC, your national, state and city leaders. If you are a “younger” and “healthy” individual, I am so happy that you are blessed with young age and great health and do not feel you can fall victim to this virus. However, many people "young" and "old" in our community do not have that privilege. Therefore, we ask that you PLEASE follow the recommendations set forth by the professional medical community and subject matter experts in this arena. It’s not just about you. This is a team effort. An effort that will help our elders and people with a compromised immune system. Respect the recommendations and follow them. Let’s continue to pray for God’s mercy and ask that God enlighten our doctors and scientists to find the vaccine and the solution to treat everyone that is affected. Stay positive Aiken! We will get through this. God Bless each of you!
