Governor's Challenge - September is Suicide Prevention Month! Governor McMaster has proclaimed September 10th as SC Veterans Suicide Prevention Day. This goes in conjunction with President Trump's PREVENTS program. Therefore, we CHALLENGE you to check on you buddies now!

Veterans - in support of the national PREVENTS program, our own SC Governor McMaster has issued the proclamation that the month of September is "Veteran Suicide Prevention Month" and Thursday, September 10th, is PREVENTS Day. Make it a point to call one of your Veterans and ask how they are doing? If they seem "out of it" or are expressing that they are "down" or not "feeling themselves", you can offer them help through the following resources:

ACVC wants to thank Dr. Robin Jackson and Mr. Brian Rothwell from Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center for attending our monthly meeting last night! Social distancing was practiced and PPE was used for everyone's safety.
Dr. Jackson was our guest speaker and provided a very thorough briefing on all that is happening at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center (Uptown and Downtown) as well as the Community Based Outpatient Clinics! We are very excited about what the future holds for our Veterans!

Your Aiken County Veterans Council coming back together since the COVID 19 quarantine!
SC's 1st Secretary of Veteran's Affairs, Major General (USA, Retired) William Grimsley, briefed us on SCDVA's future plans for veterans, and we heard from Senator Tom Young, Chairman of our Aiken County Legislative Delegation. Our thanks to both of these gentlemen for your input and support of our veterans!

Your Aiken County Veterans Council held its first meeting since the COVID 19 quarantine. Guest speaker tonight was our new SC Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Major General (USA, Retired) William Grimsley, who briefed the council on SCDVA's plans going forward for SC veterans!
ACVC was also grateful for Senator Tom Young's attendance and updates!

The Henry Laurens Chapter Aiken SC Society Sons of the American Revolution participated in ceremonies at the 241st Anniversary celebration of The Battle of Brier Creek. The Commemoration was held at the Battlefield and Memorial site in Screven County, Georgia 7 March 2020 it was sponsored by Wiregrass Chapter Georgia Society SAR, Brier Creek Chapter Georgia SAR and Gov. David Emanuel – Adam Brinson Chapter NSDAR. Ted Walker, President Henry Laurens Chapter carried the South Carolina State flag in the combined Georgia State Color Guard Bill Palmer Commander and represented his state and chapter. In commemoration of the battle and patriots lost a combined militia gave a 21 gun salute with riffles and cannon fire. A wreath dedication ceremony was held and many State, Local community leaders, SAR Chapters, NSDAR organizations, Veterans organizations (VFW), American Legions and local folks paid tribute. About 100 folks were in attendance and were treated to a wonderful program. It was an honor to represent our Henry Laurens Chapter and pay tribute to those who fought for the freedom of our country. Thanks to all who participated by attending this wonderful event and helped preserve the memory of those who sacrificed their all for our freedom.
