👥 Meet Chief Barranco — LAC Class of 2007

Chief Barranco has remained committed to LAC for nearly two decades, serving on the Board of Directors since 2008, including as Board President and a class coordinator. With 30+ years in public service, he continues to invest his time in developing leaders and serving the Aiken community.

👥 Meet Brie — Leadership Aiken County Class of 2018

Through LAC, Brie gained a deeper understanding of the community she calls home and built relationships that continue today. She now serves on the LAC Board and has helped lead several JLAC classes, encouraging the next generation of community leaders.

Her LAC experience gave her a deeper appreciation for Aiken County, pushed her outside of her comfort zone, and helped her build meaningful connections along the way. She now continues that journey by serving on the LAC Board and giving back to the program that made such an impact on her.

👋 Where Are They Now? Meet Amber Woodward!

Since graduating from LAC in 2022, Amber has continued to grow with Aiken County EMS, advancing from Shift Manager to Assistant Director and now Director of EMS.

Her leadership is also gaining recognition beyond Aiken County. After winning the Stand and Deliver competition at EMS World EXPO, Amber will return to the conference this fall—this time as a presenter!

👥 Meet Martha Messick

Since her LAC experience, Martha has continued putting leadership into action by serving on the LAC Board and helping lead both LAC and JLAC classes. She credits the program with opening doors to new connections and opportunities to serve.

👋 Where Are They Now? Meet Kelci Green!

Since graduating from LAC in 2020, Kelci has stayed connected to the program as a class coordinator and board member while continuing to grow professionally.

After 6.5 years supporting economic development across the region with Western SC, Kelci made the move to McCall-Thomas Engineering, where she now works in business development primarily with electric cooperatives across South Carolina and Georgia.

From economic development to the power industry, Kelci continues to build connections and serve the communities around her.

Calling Aiken County’s future leaders!

Applications are now open for Junior Leadership Aiken County (JLAC)! This FREE program gives 10th graders the opportunity to grow their leadership skills, make new connections, serve their community, and get a behind-the-scenes look at Aiken County.

Participants will experience team building, community service, and interactive class days covering everything from economic development and healthcare to law enforcement, education, local history, and more.

🎓 Open to 10th graders who live or attend school in Aiken County
👥 Only 22–26 students will be selected
💰 No cost to participate
