Last week, we said goodbye to a true hero and loyal friend. Retired Aiken County Sheriff's Office K9 Prado was peacefully laid to rest after a lifetime of service and companionship.

K9 Prado faithfully served the citizens of Aiken County from June 2015 until his retirement in July 2023. K9 Prado served with two handlers during his service, Deputy Lamphere and Sgt. Canalejo.

K9 Prado was trained in narcotic detection and had a very successful career with over 300 narcotic deployments resulting in the seizure of large amounts of illegal narcotics, fi****ms, and over $47,000 in drug proceeds.

From the streets protecting our community to his well earned retirement, K9 Prado continued his companionship where he lived with Sgt. Canalejo and his family, where he enjoyed chasing his Kong and taking trips to the beach.

We thank K9 Prado for his courage, loyalty, and unwavering dedication and the Canalejo family for continuing to love him during his retirement.

Rest in peace K9 Prado, you're lasting pawprints on everyone's heart will never be forgotten!
