Be sure to pencil in Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 5:30 to participate in the Airway Heights City Council study session.

Here’s a peek at some of the items on the agenda:

• The Spokane Transit Authority will present the upcoming August vote on renewing an existing 0.2% sales tax measure. The proposed sales tax renewal will be used to maintain existing and support new transit services for the service area. The Airway Heights City Council voted to support STA’s decision to ask voters to renew the measure.

• Leaders will also review the city’s 6-Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The state requires the critical information and provides a fiscally constrained roadmap for delivering transportation projects.

• Leaders will also present the upcoming Cops, Kids & Cruisers event scheduled for July 11, 2026, at Sunset Park from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. The Airway Heights Police Department presents this event and benefits the West Plains Safety Alliance, a non-profit organization that funds safety initiatives for the region.

• City leaders will also discuss the Officer Wellness grant. The comprehensive officer wellness program offers individual support and resources focused on mental wellness. This grant will begin on July 1, 2026, and continue for the next year.

• Councilmembers are considering an ordinance to ban virtual currency kiosks in Airway Heights. While they resemble traditional bank ATMs, they connect to crypto exchanges rather than bank accounts to process transactions. The Federal Bureau of Investigation reports $5.6 billion in losses in 2023 due to kiosk-aided scams.
