Employee Recognition for the Month of April Dominique Pacheco
Emergency Medical Technician currently serving Ajo Ambulance Sub Station 6 that primarily serves the Gu Achi and Pisinemo districts of the Tohono O’odham Nation, hospital transfers from Sells Hospital, and Highway 86.
Pacheco has been EMT at Ajo Ambulance for 9 years. She came into the EMS side of the agency after spending a year as the Supply Room clerk. Pacheco frequently participates in off duty events, over time coverage, and training new personal. Pacheco has been recognized by coworkers for always being timely, being able to work with everyone, and having a really fun and upbeat attitude. On her days off Pacheco enjoys cooking, spending time with family and friends like helping her son with his creations, taking care of her animals, listening to music, and playing sports.
Her favorite part about EMS is “ Knowing I’m making a difference with the care I provide and the patients I meet along the way. You get to see all stages of life whether it be bringing a new life into this world to unfortunately leaving. You are helping people at their most vulnerable and knowing I can help them is fulfilling.”
Advice Pacheco would give to someone interested in EMS would be to make sure you’re mentally and physically prepared, this job it isn’t for everybody. You see people at their most vulnerable. Be sure it’s something you really want to do and are passionate about. This job comes with a lot of sacrifice, dedication and responsibility. Time away from your family with plenty of missed holidays and birthdays. You’re making and giving life saving interventions with most decisions having to be on the spot. Remember the little things matter whether it be holding someone’s hand, to words of comfort, and having compassion.
Find your purpose, and once you do utilize to make a difference.
Thank you Dominique for your dedication and commitment to the people of Ajo and the Tohono O’odham Nation.
