Congratulations to 8th graders Ayla Jagielo and Carissa Martek for being recognized this week as the May 2026 Board of Education Mission Movers. Ayla and Carissa were recognized not only for their recent first place finishes in the Modifed All-League Track Meet but for their citizenship and daily “sunshine” that they bring to school with them each day. Middle School Principal Joseph Caprio III commented, “Both girls are always respectful, are smiling and bring brightness to our school and to our District.”

Congratulations to Ayla and Carissa for your accomplishments and for being recognized as the May 2026 Mission Movers!

Congratulations to all of the students recognized this week during Akron High School's 39th Annual Scholastic Recognition Ceremony! In addition to recognizing 9th-12th graders for maintaining a 90 percent or above average for each of the first three marking periods of the school year, we also had 11 seniors earn High Honor Roll status for maintaining a 94.5 percent and above each quarter throughout their high school tenure.

Thank you to Mr. Mike Masters for your speech to students about resiliency, and our chorus for welcoming guests into the ceremony.

Student Leadership in Akron! 🌟

Please join us in congratulating Audrey Garverick, who was recently recognized by the Erie County Legislature for her outstanding leadership, service, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

Audrey was honored for her creation of Read to Lead, an innovative student-led initiative that promotes literacy, leadership, empathy, inclusion, and a sense of belonging among our youngest learners. Through recorded read-alouds, classroom visits, and meaningful conversations with elementary students, Audrey has demonstrated the power of student leadership and the impact one person can have on a school community.

In addition to serving as one of Akron’s first Student Ex Officio Board Members, Audrey is actively involved in numerous academic, athletic, and extracurricular pursuits while continually advocating for opportunities that help others learn, grow, and succeed.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it celebrates not only Audrey’s accomplishments, but also her character. She leads with compassion, purpose, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

At Akron, we often talk about the importance of student voice, leadership, and service. Audrey embodies all three. Her willingness to turn an idea into action, inspire younger students, and advocate for educational opportunities beyond our district serves as an example for all of us.

Congratulations, Audrey! Your Akron family is incredibly proud of you, and we look forward to seeing the continued impact of your leadership in the years ahead.
