Village of Akron Residents,
The Akron Fire Department is closely monitoring the potential for severe thunderstorms and possible tornado development in our area. Conditions may change rapidly, and residents should stay alert throughout the day and evening.
What You Should Do Now:
β
Monitor weather alerts through local TV, NOAA Weather Radio, trusted weather apps, and emergency notifications.
β
Review your familyβs emergency plan and identify your safest shelter location.
β
Charge cell phones, portable batteries, and flashlights.
β
Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and loose items that could become airborne in strong winds.
β
Keep a pair of shoes, flashlight, medications, and emergency supplies readily available.
If a Tornado Warning Is Issued:
πͺ Move immediately to a basement if available.
πͺ If no basement is available, go to the lowest floor of a sturdy building and shelter in a small interior room, hallway, bathroom, or closet away from windows.
πͺ Cover your head and neck with your arms, a mattress, blankets, or a helmet if available.
πͺ Stay away from windows, doors, and exterior walls.
πͺ Do not attempt to outrun a tornado in a vehicle if safe shelter is nearby.
Important Reminder:
* A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
* A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar. Take shelter immediately.
The Akron Fire Department will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates as necessary. Please remain weather-aware and be prepared to act quickly if warnings are issued.
