Fact: The HVAC system has to work harder to start up each time, which means it's consuming a lot of energy. The HVAC system is designed to run consistently and efficiently over time. It's important to keep you HVAC system on to save energy.

The Akron Dreams Down Payment Assistance Program for first time homebuyers is here! We are excited to launch a housing program with City of Akron, Ohio - Mayor's Office that will assist with the lives of many Akron residents who no longer have to worry about the barrier of having a down payment.

At EANDC we believe neighborhood development is about more than place it's about the people. Through Akron Dreams we will continue to build connections with potential first-time homebuyers, creating pathways to homeownership through homebuyer and financial literacy education, and contributing to a stronger future for East Akron and the broader Akron community.

Akron Dreams will be able to help those in need by assisting with the upfront costs of buying a home and providing homebuyer and financial literacy education. The new down payment assistance program will provide up to $7,500 to eligible first-time homebuyers with buying a home in the City of Akron.

Thank you to City of Akron, Ohio - Mayor's Office for partnering with EANDC and our Center for Homeownership and Financial Literacy department. Thank you to The Ward 3 President of Council Councilwoman Margo Sommerville and the Akron City Council for your support on homeownership and financial stability. Thank you to Unify Akron delegate Jasina Chapman for recognizing the importance of providing affordability for new homeowners and for being a voice for many Akronites.

Last week on Wednesday, August 19, DAR Public Relations hosted their second Seniors and Caregivers Expo at EANDC! When seniors are engaged and given easy access to resources, it helps neighborhoods thrive and become stronger. Thank you to DAR Public Relations,Inc. for bringing resources and opportunities for seniors to connect in East Akron. Thank you to the organizations that were involved and to the food trucks who brought food and refreshments. Our enrollment has been growing over the Summer with new clients and old wanting to finish out the end of Summer strong! Our Homebuyer Education Classes are held every month throughout the year except December. Classes are held every Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Myth: Closing air vents in unused rooms saves you money.

Fact: Most heating or cooling systems work just as hard whether 10 or 12 vents are open. In fact, closing a vent can throw off the system’s balance and allow pressure to build up in the ductwork. The built-up pressure causes leaks, decreases efficiency, and leads to higher electricity bills.

When there is an issue with someone's home not cooling or heating our maintenance staff not only takes care of the issue for our residents. Our maintenance staff also educates our residents, so that there is a collaborative relationship.

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a positive community impact in Akron? We are looking for volunteers aged 18 and up to go door to door with staff to help conduct community impact measurement surveys on tin the East Akron neighborhood in support with NeighborWorks America!

📆Dates: Monday August 24, 2026 - Friday, August 28, 2026
⏰Times: Flexible and will be coordinated based on the volunteers availability
