🐦 Pike Memorial Park Update 🐦

We wanted to let the community know that the barn swallow nest at the North Pavilion has been taken care of.

Our hope is that this will eliminate any further situations that have made it difficult for residents and visitors to safely and comfortably use the walking trail at Pike Memorial Park.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked to address this issue. We appreciate everyone helping us keep our parks safe, enjoyable, and welcoming for all.

It is with mixed emotions that we learned Jonesy's Junction will be closing its doors. While we are saddened to see this chapter come to an end, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank Tim for everything he has meant to the Town of Akron.

Tim built much more than a restaurant—he built a place where friendships were made, stories were shared, and our community gathered. Beyond the great food and welcoming atmosphere, Tim quietly gave back in countless ways. Whether it was supporting our youth programs, helping ensure local kids had what they needed, contributing to our volunteer fire department, or lending a helping hand whenever asked, he did so without seeking recognition or the spotlight.

Those acts of generosity have made a lasting impact on our community, and for that, we are incredibly grateful.

We sincerely hope the right buyer comes along to continue the legacy Tim has built and keep this beloved establishment serving Akron for years to come.

On behalf of the Town of Akron, thank you, Tim, for your years of dedication, generosity, and service to our community. While we're sad to see this chapter close, we're incredibly proud of all you've accomplished and wish you nothing but happiness, good health, and many well-earned days of relaxation ahead.

Congratulations on your retirement—you've earned it. Enjoy life on your time, and know you'll always be a valued part of the Akron community. ❤️

First and foremost I would like to say Thank You to everyone who has supported us through the years. It has been a long, great and sometimes difficult journey. An experience I wouldn't trade for anything. However, at this time,I feel I must let you know that I have listed the Junction for sale. This has not been an easy decision for me, but I know the time is right and it’s much-needed for my health.
Please don't misunderstand, I love the Junction and the community we serve and at this point I feel my time has come to put this up for someone else to serve this great community.
August will be our last month of operation. We look forward to seeing all of you in the next month. It will be difficult to say goodbye, but something I know I must do. Thank you for your support and understanding as this has been a very difficult decision but I know it’s the right one to make. Thank you all for allowing us to serve you ♥️

OCRA Water Improvement Project Update

The final phase of the OCRA Water Improvement Project began today at the Akron Water Plant. As part of this work, the filter tank will be taken out of service while scheduled maintenance is completed. During this time, the filtration system will be temporarily offline.

Residents may notice temporary changes in water quality, including:

💧 Slight discoloration (yellow, brown, or rusty water)
💧 Minor changes in water clarity
💧 Occasional fluctuations in water pressure or air in the water lines

These changes are temporary and are a normal part of the maintenance process. If you notice discoloration, running cold water for several minutes will typically clear the lines.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important investment in Akron's water infrastructure. This final phase will help ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient water system for years to come.

Residents of the Town of Akron: Please be aware that Verizon representatives conducting door-to-door sales do not have the required permit to solicit within the town.

It has been reported that representatives are waiting until Town Hall is closed before going door-to-door, avoiding the process of obtaining the required solicitation permit and paying the associated daily fee. Local authorities have been notified and are aware of the situation.

If someone comes to your door claiming to represent Verizon, you may ask to see their solicitation permit issued by the Town of Akron. If they cannot provide one or you have concerns, consider reporting the interaction to the appropriate local authorities.

Please help spread the word so residents can make informed decisions when answering the door.

East Walnut St between SR19/Mishawaka St and Center St.

🚧 Road Closure Notice – E. Walnut Street 🚧
Please be advised that E. Walnut Street, from SR 19 to Center Street, will be closed for the next couple of days while crews complete asphalt patching and sewer line repairs.

🏠 Residents: You should still be able to access your homes using the alleys that run through the area.

Please use alternate routes if possible and allow extra travel time. We appreciate your patience and understanding as these necessary improvements are completed.
