FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Subject: Volunteer Crews Respond to Basement Fire on Maple Road

NEWSTEAD, NY — At 10:07 PM on June 2nd, the Newstead Fire Company was dispatched to a reported basement fire on Maple Road. Due to the nature of the call, automatic aid partners from the Akron, Clarence, Clarence Center, and Wolcottsville Fire Companies were dispatched to assist. Additionally, the Pembroke Fire Company provided essential standby coverage at the Newstead Fire Hall during the incident.

Upon arrival, Newstead Chiefs confirmed a working fire in the basement with visible smoke showing from the structure. Firefighters moved quickly to advance a hoseline into the building to combat the fire.

Upon reaching the seat of the fire, crews identified it as an electrical fire centered around the structure's breaker box. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze using dry chemical extinguishers.

No injuries were reported during this incident.

The scene was turned over to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit for further investigation.

The Newstead Fire Company would like to extend our thanks to our neighboring departments for their prompt response and assistance in ensuring this incident was brought under control quickly and safely.

Member of the Month: Trent Barszcz

The Newstead Fire Company is proud to recognize Trent Barszcz as our Member of the Month for May 2026!

Trent has been an invaluable asset to our leadership and operations team, taking the lead on some of the most critical infrastructure and fleet projects currently underway. He has been instrumental in managing our department-wide radio upgrade project, ensuring our communication systems remain reliable and efficient.

Additionally, Trent has stayed consistently on top of the complex build process for our new engine and new grass fire truck. Navigating the specifications, timelines, and logistical details of two apparatus builds at once is no small feat, and Trent’s dedication to these projects is directly helping to secure the future of our fire company’s capabilities.

Thank you, Trent, for your hard work, your attention to detail, and your commitment to making sure our members have the best tools and technology available to serve the Town of Newstead. We are proud to have you on our team!
