We were very fortunate to have the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control bring out their Mobile Driver Simulator today and put on some driver training for us. This amazing piece of equipment can send drivers on over 100 different scenarios including brush fires, traffic accidents and about anything else you can imagine. It can simulate various weather and road conditions as well as different vehicles such as fire engines, ambulances, and police cruisers. We also did various tabletop excersises that went over how to position our trucks at scenes to create safe zones. Several members of surrounding fire departments and agencies also participated.

Road conditions continue to decline as winds pick up. Especially as you go farther west. Not expecting much more accumulation but blowing snow and icy roads will create hazardous driving conditions.

At 12:42 AM this morning AVFD was dispatched to a structure fire at a residence south of Akron. At arrival one garage was fully engulfed with several large propane tanks and buildings nearby. Single digit temperatures and limited water supply made this a particularly challenging fire to fight. The fire was extinguished and all trucks cleared the scene around 4:30AM.

We would like to thank SW Washington County Fire, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff's Office, WY Communications, YW Electric and Washington County Road & Bridge for their assistance.

Great information that could save a life!

We receive many inquiries about restraining children in vehicles. Please remember the most dangerous place you will ever place your child is in a vehicle. Crashes are the #1 cause of injury and death for children. Take child passenger safety seriously. Remember, the decision to buckle up isn't up to them.
