What parents need to know about: WhatsApp
With more than 1.5 billion users and in more than 180 countries, WhatsApp is one of the most popular free messaging apps in the world (Online Safety, 2020).
According to Online Safety (2020), a 2017 study found that by the age of 14, the average child will have sent more than 30,000 WhatsApp messages and three weeks of video chat!
Users can send and receive photos, text, videos, and documents to include voice and video calls through an Internet or Wi-Fi connection (WhatsApp, 2020).
WhatsApp offers “end-to-end encryption,” which means that messages can only be read by the sender and the recipient or all members in a group chat (WhatsApp, 2020).
