Our local sign fabricators, Sign Pro of North Florida, Inc. are at it again showing why its great to hire our local businesses. They are keeping the #madeinalachua going! What have you or your business #madeinalachua? Let us know and we will share it with the social media world!

How about this custom fabricated illuminated monument sign we completed today in Gainesville, FL.

Unique high-end touches such as solid 3/4” thick acrylic push through lettering that is illuminated from within the cabinet makes this sign standout! The clean seamless face with no visible fasteners compliments the logo and completes the clean modern look. These touches are not easy to fabricate but make the sign even more stunning than traditional fabrication methods.

Yes, we designed and created the entire sign in our Alachua facility! We appreciate our clients who choose to have their sign made locally. If you can dream it we can build it!

ATTENTION!!!!

Due to approach of hurricane Dorian the Chamber general meeting on September 3, 2019 has been cancelled. We will reschedule our featured speaker Kevin Folta for a later date.

We wish all of our businesses and residents the best during the next week as Hurricane Dorian approaches. We will try to communicate any and all information we have regarding storm announcements from local municipalities such as City of Alachua, Alachua County.

Be safe and please take this time to prepare. Today would be a perfect time to talk to your neighboring businesses to see if they need any help or have any concerns. We have confidence our community will be prepared and ready to help each other as needs arise.

IMPORTANT HURRICANE DORIAN PREPARATION/RESPONSE INFORMATION

In anticipation of potential impacts from Hurricane Dorian later this weekend and early next week, the City of Alachua has activated its emergency operations plan and urges its residents and businesses to get prepared.
Depending on its path, Hurricane Dorian is capable of causing widespread power outages and catastrophic property damages. In addition, restoration may be hampered by flooding, downed trees or other obstacles. City of Alachua crews are prepared to work long hours after the storm passes, restoring service to residents and businesses as quickly and as safely as possible.

Take action now!

Create a hurricane survival kit that includes first aid supplies, a battery-powered radio, tarps, batteries and flashlights. Make sure to have a few days’ supply of any needed prescription medicine, baby food and diapers, pet food, canned food and drinking water (at least one gallon per person, per day). Have extra cash on hand and make sure you have a full tank of gas in your car and proper fuel on hand for a gas grill and/or generator.
To determine a hurricane evacuation route, visit www.FloridaDisaster.org.

Current sand bag locations open in Alachua:

• Wayside Park Near Hague/Turkey Creek: 12093 NW US Hwy 441

Emergency Shelter Information:

Information about local emergency shelters that will be open during the storm can be found by visiting the Alachua County Emergency Management webpage:
https://www.alachuacounty.us/…/Pages/Emergency-Shelters.aspx

Hurricane shelters are a last resort. If you have family, friends or a hotel to go to out of the area, it would be preferable to living in an emergency shelter. The decision to open shelters will depend on the severity of the event as well as local needs.
Emergency shelter information will be available by calling 3-1-1 as well as through the media and the Alachua County Emergency Management website. DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 for shelter or storm information. Call 9-1-1 only for a life-threatening emergency.
Power Outage Information:

Customers who experience a power outage or water/sewer issue are asked to call386-418-6185 to report the matter.

After the severe weather passes, City of Alachua crews will begin restoring services as quickly as possible. Crews will begin restoring services by repairing treatment facilities, substations, lift stations and main distribution lines first. Once the main lines are repaired, crews will then turn their attention to individual customer outages.

If you are a City of Alachua utility customer who is medically dependent on electricity for oxygen or other equipment, please make sure you have a backup generator in place or additional power backup. Utilities typically cannot respond to customers with special needs during or immediately after a storm. Have an evacuation plan and know special needs shelter locations. If you or someone you know has special electrical medical equipment needs, notify the City’s utility billing division at 386-418-6110 prior to the storm’s arrival.

Generator Use Safety Tips:

• DON’T run a generator in the house
• DON’T run a generator in the garage, and
• DON’T plug a generator directly into a house’s main electrical system.

The first two could lead to suffocation and the third could send an electrical charge back to the power grid, which would create an electrocution hazard for utility workers.

• DO set up generators outside in a well-ventilated area, and
• DO plug individual appliances directly into the generator.

Following the storm, restoration information can be obtained by checking the City’s website: www.cityofalachua.com and page: https://www.facebook.com/cityofalachua
