For many LGBTQ+ youth, family isn't always defined by blood, but by connection, care, and acceptance. The same is true for LGBTQ+ youth in foster care. This Pride Month, we celebrate the power of chosen family—whether that’s a supportive foster parent, a mentor, a friend, or an adoptive family who steps up with unconditional love.

Every young person deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. Let’s honor all the families—by birth, by bond, and by choice—who show up with pride and love.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration - it's a reminder of how long the Black community has had to wait for freedom, and how far we still have to go to make that freedom real for every Black child.

In California, Black children are only about 5% of the child population, but they make up over 20% of the children in foster care. Unfortunately, this is the legacy of a system built on injustice and systematic oppression.

So, on this Juneteenth, as we honor the fight for liberation, let us recommit ourselves to fostering a child welfare system that honors every Black child and family, where kids can grow up safe, loved, and surrounded by communities that see their worth.🤎

Freedom means nothing if every child doesn’t feel it.

At Family Builders, our Youth Acceptance Program (YAP) works with families of LGBTQ+ youth to build understanding, address misinformation and resistance to their child’s identity, and help keep families together. 💕

This kind of support isn’t only life-changing, it’s life-saving. LGBTQ+ youth whose parents affirm their identity are 93% less likely to attempt su***de, and they experience better mental health, stronger self-esteem, and lower rates of depression and substance use.

By helping families accept their LGBTQ+ youth, YAP reduces the risk of youth entering foster care simply because of who they are. 🌟
