Any content removed based on these guidelines will be retained, including the time, date and identity of the poster when available. AUSD disclaims any and all responsibility and liability for any content that the district deems inappropriate for posting, which cannot be removed in an expeditious and otherwise timely manner.

Dear AUSD Families:

This afternoon, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an incident involving a student occurred outside of the Encinal campus. As a precaution, school administrators implemented a silent shelter-in-place to keep all learners safely in their classrooms while we addressed the situation. This shelter in place lasted approximately 3 minutes, and included the presence of school district administrators and the Alameda Police Department.

Our staff responded quickly and followed safety procedures to ensure our learners remained safe and supported. All school activities resumed as usual while we conducted the shelter in place. These efforts are appreciated and in line with the expectations and training we have discussed in recent communications regarding campus safety.

We appreciate the quick response of staff and the cooperation of public safety partners and district staff.

Please know that the campus is secure, and our priority remains the safety and well-being of every learner at every school.

We will, particularly in light of recent news, support our school teams in continuously improving our awareness and response to any and all safety situations on or around campus.

Love Elementary School students are putting in laps today for the school's annual fundraising walkathon. Money raised will help fund the garden and art docent programs, field trips, the Fall Festival, and more.

AUSD welcomed Erick O. Bell to the Board of Education last night with both an official swearing in and statements of support from Board Members and attendees. Mr. Bell, who is taking the place of former member Jennifer Williams, will serve until December, 2028.

It was a beautiful day for schools across our island to celebrate Walk and Roll to School Day today! We're grateful to all the students, families, staff, and volunteers who participated, as well as the City of Alameda - Local Government and the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools Program for their crucial support.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through 10 pm Thursday, October 8. Please remind your students to wear light, breathable fabrics, drink plenty of water, and let someone know if they feel dizzy or nauseated.

Information about how sports practices or meets may be modified will come from athletic coaches later today.

Congratulations to our 2026 Teacher of the Year, Kate Werner, who was honored at the Alameda County Office of Education's awards program last night.

Ms. Werner, who teaches special education and film at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School, was one of 17 Teachers of the Year from across the county honored last night.

In her remarks, she thanked her parents (including her mother, who was also a special education teacher), her Encinal team of special education specialists, and Principal Snyder, whose "vision and enthusiastic tenacity," Ms. Werner noted, shapes her own educational philosophy.

Our ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Otis Elementary School campus took place yesterday.
