1:45 PM UPDATE:
The Alameda Police Department has lifted the shelter in place at all of the affected schools, and they are resuming normal operations. Again, this was in response to a report of an off-campus incident that may have involved a weapon, and again, all students and staff are safe.

In response to reports of a possible off-campus incident involving a weapon, we have placed EHS, Ruby, ACDC, Island, Paden, ASTI, AoA, and ACLC into a shelter in place. All students and staff are safe. We will have more information shortly, but again all students and staff are safe.

Thank you,
Susan Davis
Senior Manager, Community Affairs

ASTI students and staff were temporarily evacuated from their classrooms this morning due to an electrical issue that caused sparks in one portion of Building C. Students were out of class for about an hour. All students and staff were safe during this time, and we thank both Alameda Fire Department and Alameda Municipal Power for their rapid response.

Due to damage to the fiber cable, ASTI's internet is not currently working but we are partnering with College of Alameda to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Check out this video to see the start and end of the demolition (plus a quick shot of the new school design to lift the spirits of those who are sad to see the old campus go).

Workers will begin dismantling the main Wood Middle School classroom building next week.

Once the steel has been removed, the concrete will be ground up, technically referred to as "munched," by the way.

Then workers will begin mapping where the existing foundation's "piers" -- long columns that reach down below the sand and into solid soil - are located.

More information about this project is available at: https://www.alamedaunified.org/departments/construction/measure-b/wood-middle-school-new-construction-and-modernization.

We're excited about this progress!
