We'd like to remind our community of our session with Dr. Mary Bacon tonight: "Opportunities Denied; Promises Not Kept:
Celebrating the Cultural Capital of African-American Families."

This interactive session will focus on the strengths that are inherent in African-American culture and the survival skills that families can teach their children to more effectively negotiate a system that often gives them more messages about their deficiencies than their ability to conquer any obstacles that they might face.

Last night, Superintendent Scuderi sent a message to all AUSD staff and families about the national news about TikTok threats.

"As of this evening we have nothing to substantiate a specific or credible threat to local schools here in Alameda," he wrote. "However, in an abundance of caution, our team reached out to our principals earlier today with reminders on protocols for following up on threats in general, and also the need to maintain effective student and campus supervision as we transition to winter break."

Alameda Unified School District staff have been trained in delivering Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), which was made possible through a Kaiser Permanente Community Fund grant. Youth Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, and any other citizen how to identify, understand and respond to an adolescent (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. AUSD will be offering members of the community an opportunity to participate in this course and obtain certification in YMHFA. Participants are required to complete a 2 hour YMHFA introduction online before attending the 4.5 hour in person course. This course is FREE. All components of the course (including the workbook) are paid for though the Kaiser Permanente Community Fund grant. If you are interested - Please let AUSD know which day/time you prefer for the 4.5 hour training with AUSD Student Services Department on Youth Mental Health First Aid. They are planning on offering the course the week of January 10th OR January 17th. Please complete the survey form by December 1st. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfScV4-Y4gWgtC9VhYmbHQxto8HlUkehThuBQJjHtDqZlMOUg/viewform

We are very fortunate to partner with Maya Lin School and their incredible art teacher Constance Moore Art who helped us adapt The Ladder of Feedback (Harvard Project Zero) for the ensemble. Every Wednesday in our Soundlab class is a time for students to provide and receive peer feedback on their compositions. Teaching Artist Sally Decker provides a trusting, safe space for students to think critically about the music they create. What is the Ladder of Feedback? "The 'Ladder of Feedback' is a protocol or structure that establishes a culture of trust and constructive support by sequencing feedback in order that is constructive. The idea or project can be presented to partners or to a group and follow a series of steps (moving from one rung of the ladder to the next): Step 1: Clarify Ask clarifying questions to be sure you understand the idea or in our case "the composition". Step 2: Value Express what you like about the idea or matter at hand in specific terms. Step 3: State concerns State your puzzles and concerns. Use qualified terms: “I wonder if . . .” “It seems to me . . .” Step 4: Suggest Make suggestions about how to improve things. This step is sometimes blended with step 3: people state concerns and then offer suggestions for addressing them. #makinglearningvisible #artsed #musiced California Arts Council Californians for the Arts Alameda Unified School District CA AfterSchool Network

I bet you didnt even know what rhabdomyolysis even is. And you certainly didnt know vaccines cause it.
Please do not take this down again. This is a matter of life and death. This is addressing problems I’m seeing at Ruby Bridges school. I know everyone involved is working hard to ensure a safe learning environment but I’m seeing serious gaps in this as I will address below. Please be aware and help us all ensure our children are safe at school and that the mask mandate is being upheld by everyone. I’ve tried to have these question answered from the Ruby Bridges principal but have not received anything helpful. Just to be clear masks are MANDATORY on campus but does this include the sports field/ back fence and walkway? where we all stand together waiting for our children? Or while the children stand in line with their teachers on the basketball court? At what point are people “off campus”? Is the parking lot on or off? The sidewalks that run on the school side not by the streets are these on or off campus? The reason I would like clarity is that children and some parents after picking up their kids and removing their masks while on the sports field, walking on the path from the pick up areas to the parking lots as well. There are lots of people close to each other during this time. Would it not be safer to require the masks on till you are in your car? And or on Jack London ave? Please advise? I’m a concerned parent of course and the delta virus as you know is very dangerous and as we start seeing people test positive in AUSD and Ruby Bridges. Its best we don’t relax and expose people picking up and dropping of children. Maybe it’s just laziness? I hope so and not a rejection of the mandate? But this version of Covit is especially easy to catch/spread and it kills adults and children. Let’s mask up so our kids can grow up. Thanks
My concerns at Ruby Bridges: After trying and failing to get these questions answered from the principal I’m reaching out for help. I want to be clear on the mask requirements that no one is allowed “on campus” without a mask? So does this include the sports field/ back fence and walkway? This area is where we all stand together waiting for our children. There are many children with parents as well as in line with thier teachers without masks on At what point are people “off campus”? Is the parking lot on or off? The sidewalks that run on the school side not by the streets are these on or off campus? The reason I would like clarity is that children and some parents after picking up their kids and removing their masks while on the sports field, walking on the path from the pick up areas to the parking lots as well. There are lots of people close to each other during this time. Would it not be safer to require the masks must be on till you are in your car or actually off campus? Would it makes sense to have signs posted on the fence where the children’s lines are identified? I’m a concerned parent of course and the delta virus as you all hopefully know is very dangerous. Now as we start seeing people test positive in AUSD and now Ruby Bridges Wouldn’t it be best we don’t relax and expose people picking up and dropping of children. Does the Delta variant get off when the bell rings? These photos were taken over 2 days and to stress that this is happening now even after the positive test at Ruby Bridges. I know how hard this is and stressful for all involved as well as how hard the AUSD has worked to get this far! but we can’t be lax now and allow unmasked people and children to mix on campus. I’m supposed to feel safe for my child while in schools care. Im hoping this is because parents believe in the mask mandate but feel these areas are ok to be unmasked? Children are dying from this so as a community we need to support each other to mask up so our kids can grow up. Thanks and hope for feed back.
