How do EMTs safely remove a patient after a car accident? 🚗🚑

Safely removing a patient from a vehicle is one of the most important parts of trauma care. An improper extrication can worsen existing injuries, create new ones, and put both the patient and rescuers at risk.

To help prevent further harm, EMTs follow critical steps such as:

⛑️ Maintaining cervical spine stabilization when a spinal injury is suspected

🩺 Assessing the patient for life-threatening injuries

🗣️ Communicating a clear plan with the entire team before movement begins

🔒 Properly securing the patient using the appropriate equipment

🚨 Moving the patient in a controlled and coordinated manner

In this training scenario, our EMT students practiced the teamwork, communication, and patient care skills needed to safely remove a patient from a vehicle. Every movement matters when protecting a patient from further injury and ensuring they receive the care they need.
