FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CROCKETT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TRANSITIONS TO STATE RADIO NETWORK
CROCKETT COUNTY, TN – [December 9, 2025] – Sheriff Troy N. Klyce announces that the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office has successfully transitioned to the Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN) - a multimillion-dollar statewide public-safety radio communications system designed to give first responders unmatched reliability, interoperability, and redundancy during emergencies and disasters.
As leaders of the public safety sector, we must minimize failures related to communications as these failures place responders and citizens at risk. Across Tennessee, communication breakdowns have been contributing factors in line-of-duty deaths and major incident reviews. Whether responding to manhunts, officer-involved shootings, pursuits, or high-risk calls, one of the most consistent statewide lessons learned has been clear: when communication fails, safety fails.
TACN addresses this problem head-on. Its built-in redundancies, statewide tower network, and seamless multiband interoperability make it the most advanced emergency communications system Tennessee has ever deployed. Sheriff Klyce emphasized, “Responder safety must be at the forefront of every decision we make. Radios are lifelines. Ensuring our deputies, EMS providers, fire personnel, and dispatchers have the tools and resources they need is not optional - it’s essential.”
The portable radio and in-car radio purchases were made possible without costing Crockett County taxpayers a dime because all new radio equipment was purchased using 911 funds or state/federal grant dollars.
• The Sheriff’s Office also secured a donation of 60 TACN Motorola portable radios and 8 TACN in-car radios at no cost.
• EMS and the Sheriff’s Office now operate on one unified radio platform - eliminating the need for multiple radios to communicate across agencies.
In addition, the State of Tennessee has selected Crockett County for a new $2 million TACN tower, to be constructed in Alamo. This tower - funded entirely by the state - will provide another layer of redundant coverage for Crockett County and dramatically strengthen communication reliability during crises.
“This is the most significant upgrade in radio communication since I became sheriff,” said Klyce. “Better communication means better safety - and in public safety, better is always better. This investment enhances the safety of every deputy, firefighter, paramedic, dispatcher, and citizen in our county.”
Sheriff Klyce expressed sincere appreciation to those who helped make this possible:
• Brandon Gibson, Chief Operating Officer, State of Tennessee
• Jeff Long, Commissioner of Safety
• Jeff Gray, TACN Director
• Integrated Communications, our Motorola solutions partner
• Crockett County E-911 Board Members
Their leadership and commitment to interoperability and officer safety have brought Crockett County into a stronger, safer future.
With mutual-aid agreements signed with neighboring counties, TACN now ensures faster coordination, stronger resilience during disasters, and improved ability to locate responders in distress.
“You simply cannot put a price tag on a first responder’s life,” Klyce added. “We are proud of this investment - an investment in safety that will benefit our citizens for generations.”
The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office looks forward to the increased protection, reliability, and operational efficiency this upgrade will bring to all public-safety agencies serving our community.
