Incident Report: Injured Hiker Rescue – Oliver Lee State Park
On the evening of April 19th, at approximately 7:00 PM, Boles Acres Fire and Rescue received a call regarding an injured hiker in Oliver Lee State Park. Upon arrival, initial responding units began assessing the situation and deployed to the upper trail to establish a Listening and Observation Post (LOP) across the canyon from the hiker’s location.
Additional support arrived shortly after from Alamo West Fire and Rescue, Oro Vista Fire and Rescue, Otero County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), and American Medical Response (AMR). These units deployed into the lower canyon to begin search and rescue operations.
The injured hiker was located around 9:00 PM. Due to the technical and hazardous terrain, rescue teams exercised extreme caution in stabilizing and transporting the patient. The hiker was successfully extracted and airlifted to a Level 1 trauma center at approximately midnight.
