Due to recent department consolidations, we have decided to create a new page. Please go follow our consolidated department page Otero County Fire-EMS District 1. This will be where we post different things like Public Service Announcements, Training posts, and any other department happenings through out the communities. We will still have this page and share information for a while as a way to get information to you.

We thank you for your continued support!

Last night, our members trained on the proper techniques to draft water. Drafting is the process of using a vacuum to pull water from a non pressurized water source.

Water is a vital part of fire suppression however, it may not be readily accessible by fire hydrants. Our mobile water supply apparatus (Tender) have what we call a "porta-tank". These tanks can hold 3000 gallons of water or more. When these tanks are deployed, the Tender can dump its whole 3000 gallon water tank into the porta-tank in less than 3 minutes. Once this is complete, the Tender can go fill its tank at a different location and bring it back to repeat the process. Our fire engines can then draft water from these tanks and use it to fight fire or supply other apparatus. 🚒🚒

With the upcoming consolidation, Deputy Chief Lucas traveled to Farsouth Fire Rescue to perform this training with them while Oro Vista traveled to Boles Acres Fire and Rescue to perform this training. Great work from all our dedicated members!

Our hearts go out to the loved ones of Deputy Aleman. Please keep his family and the Doña Ana Sheriff's Office in your prayers tonight and in the coming days and weeks. Rest Easy Deputy.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own, who died in a crash while on duty Tuesday afternoon.

Patrol Deputy Antonio Aleman was on duty when his unit collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 10 near the Avenida De Mesilla exit around 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Aleman was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where life-saving measures were performed to no avail.

Deputy Aleman has been a valuable asset to the Sheriff's Office since April 2021 and will be dearly missed. Aleman will be transported to the Office of Medical Investigators Tuesday night and then returned home. DASO personnel will accompany Aleman until he is laid to rest, which will be announced at a later day.

Deputy Aleman was 33 years old, leaving behind his wife and two children.

The Sheriff's Office extends its deepest gratitude to the following partnering agencies for the support they've provided: Doña Ana Fire Rescue, New Mexico State Police Department, Border Patrol, Las Cruces Police Department, Las Cruces Fire Department and all partnering agencies who have provided support throughout the state.

Over the past 2 weeks, FF Attila Csipes and FF Stetson Lewis have been attending the IFSAC Firefighter 1&2 course in Socorro. This class taught the basic skills required to be an entry certified firefighter. The 2nd week, Deputy Chief Lucas had the privilege of assisting with the live fire burns. We are super proud of these to for completing the class. We want to wish them good luck as they will take their written and skills test tomorrow.
