Football is back at Alamosa High School!

A message from the Athletic Director, Erik W. Melgoza:

The Athletic Department at Alamosa High School is excited to announce that football is back. We will be playing a 6+1 game schedule, with the last game being the start of the playoffs or a possible rival game. We will be hosting 3 home games.

Although football is back it will not look the same with the current Covid guidelines that are in place. Our first obligation is to keep students and student athletes safe and in school. This year, or until further notice, there will be no general admission of walk up tickets purchased. We apologize in advance, but the limited number of tickets will be reserved for the parents of the players, High School staff, limited student body and essential personnel. We will also be offering the ability to live stream the games through the NFHS game network. This can be done on any home computer with the purchase of a subscription. Details to come. In the event that Covid guidelines are loosened, numbers that may attend can be increased. Please remember that our main concern is for the students and student athletes of Alamosa High School and keeping them safe in this pandemic.

To the AHS Class of 2020 - The faculty and staff of Alamosa High School want you to know that we are working behind the scenes to prepare for a graduation event that is as special as each member of your class! Graduation will be on May 16th and details have been mailed out. Every option available is being taken to create the most memorable experience possible under the current restrictions from local, state, and federal officials. The event will be filmed, photographed, recorded, and streamed for the community and shared with you and your families for free. If local and state officials ease restrictions during the summer to allow for large gatherings - AHS will plan a BBQ Bash for the Class of 2020. We are in this together!

We are so appreciative of the grace and support that families are providing staff as we work to develop our remote learning plans.

During this time, we highly encourage everyone to emphasize relationships. This can be a very scary time for children.

CDC has provided the following guidance:

Children and teens react, in part, on what they see from the adults around them. When parents and caregivers deal with the COVID-19 calmly and confidently, they can provide the best support for their children. Parents can be more reassuring to others around them, especially children, if they are better prepared.

Not all children and teens respond to stress in the same way. Some common changes to watch for include

Excessive crying or irritation in younger children
Returning to behaviors they have outgrown (for example, toileting accidents or bedwetting)
Excessive worry or sadness
Unhealthy eating or sleeping habits
Irritability and “acting out” behaviors in teens
Poor school performance or avoiding school
Difficulty with attention and concentration
Avoidance of activities enjoyed in the past
Unexplained headaches or body pain
Use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs
There are many things you can do to support your child

Take time to talk with your child or teen about the COVID-19 outbreak. Answer questions and share facts about COVID-19 in a way that your child or teen can understand.
Reassure your child or teen that they are safe. Let them know it is ok if they feel upset. Share with them how you deal with your own stress so that they can learn how to cope from you.
Limit your family’s exposure to news coverage of the event, including social media. Children may misinterpret what they hear and can be frightened about something they do not understand.
Try to keep up with regular routines. If schools are closed, create a schedule for learning activities and relaxing or fun activities.
Be a role model. Take breaks, get plenty of sleep, exercise, and eat well. Connect with your friends and family members.

Alamosa School District

The Alamosa School District would like to inform parents and students that we are taking extra precautions to keep students and staff safe and healthy during this time of COVID-19. The district is providing additional cleaning and disinfecting of classrooms, buildings and buses. You can take these steps to help keep your family safe. Wash your hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can be used if soap and water are not nearby. Avoid touching your face. Avoid sharing food or drinks.

If your child has a fever above 100.4 or has other respiratory symptoms (cough or shortness of breath) please keep them home from school until they have not had a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medications).

The state of Colorado has set up a hotline to obtain the most up to date information on COVID-19. The number is 1-877-462-2911. Governor Polis has created a guidance for school closures.
