La Puente's Adelante Family Resource Center The Adelante program is a self-sufficiency and transitional living program for families experiencing homelessness in the San Luis Valley. This two year intensive program supports families as they transition out of homelessness and provides tools to move beyond it. Adelante guides homeless families and their children in gaining the skills, experience and support that will improve their quality of life. There are three main criteria for every family that is accepted into the program. They must be adults 18 years or older, have children under the age of 18 and they must be without a home. Many of the families in Adelante are referred directly from homeless shelters around the area. The Adelante program provides resources such as job training and education to support it's clients as they strive towards self-sufficiency. Clients also receive individual and family counseling, parenting classes, life skills classes, financial management, case management and housing though the program. If you feel that you are eligible for this program and would like to learn more about how to receive these services please call 719.587.0538. Adelante is always looking for community volunteers who have experience in financial management, life skills education and home maintenance to donate some of their time to help. Mission: The Adelante Program empowers homeless families to become self-reliant and financially independent. Families work within a supportive network to gain skills and experience necessary to improve their quality of life.

Good Afternoon Parents and Community

Students 6-12 will start school tomorrow. You should have received times form your schools. We are very excited to see your children over the next few days. Remember All students will need to wear a mask (on bus as well) and make sure you are at school in time for check-in. Buses will be on normal routes, picking up country students first,. Buses will then drop off High School students around 7:25 a.m. The buses will return to the pick up point (parking lot east of the Delta center) around 7:30 a.m. Parents, the drop off will be clearly marked. The buses will then stop at Stallo/Huxley and Trujillo Trailer Park before heading to the middle school. Although we will do our best to accommodate 6 foot social distancing, we can not guarantee it. If you prefer you can drop your child off at the Middles School beginning at 7:35 a.m.

We are very excited to get back in the swing of things. Please be patient, on-line and in-person learners, as we get all the kinks worked out. Grades PK-5 will begin on Monday August 17.

Dear Mountain Valley Community,

One of the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic is living with the uncertainty of what the future will bring. With the 2020-2021 school year beginning soon, the inability to predict what the school year will look like has been a source of anxiety and stress for all of us, especially when health conditions, guidance, and mandates change so quickly. During this time of uncertainty, we realize that the stakes are high for our students, families, staff and community.

Since the announcement of our school reopening plans on July 24th, we have engaged in multiple conversations with stakeholders and key agencies as information surrounding COVID-19 has evolved. We have collaborated with Saguache County Public Health, Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE), Colorado Department of Education (CDE), Mountain Valley School District Board of Education, department directors, staff, and community to gather feedback on our school reopening plan. During this time, we have continued to monitor COVID-19 data and the decisions made by other school districts.

In the midst of daily COVID-19 information and guidance changes, school plans across the country are changing at a rapid rate. The latest COVID-19 information, data, and guidance from local, state, and national agencies greatly impact our decision-making process regarding school reopening for the 2020-2021 school year.

On Thursday, July 30th, CDPHE released guidance for COVID-19 Cases and Outbreaks in Schools. Based on these guidelines, feedback from our staff and community, and a focus on health and safety, we are announcing important changes to our school reopening plan.

The Mountain Valley School District Board of Education, during a special meeting held on Thursday, August 6, 2020, voted on and approved a 100% remote learning plan for the start of the school year beginning August 24, 2020. We will not be starting the school year with in-person learning.

Parent-student-teacher conferences will take place August 17th through the 20th. These conferences will allow teachers to distribute Chromebooks, explain curriculum, procedures and expectations, as well as answer any questions about remote learning and attend to student and family needs.

This remote learning decision will be revisited monthly at Mountain Valley School District Board of Education meetings and will allow us to better plan and prepare for anticipated in-person learning experiences based on evolving COVID-19 data and guidance.

As we look toward the start of the school year, please take some time to update family contact and registration information on our new PowerSchool online registration platform. During registration for new and existing students, families will also have the opportunity to make enrollment decisions that they believe will be the best option for them moving forward.

If you would like your student to return to in-person learning as soon as it’s available, please select the in-person learning option. If you’re certain that you won’t feel comfortable having your student participate in in-person learning for the fall semester, please select the 100% online learning option. Please note that families will be able to change their enrollment decision into early fall.

Thank you for your patience and input through surveys to help us decide how to best open school this fall. As a reminder, all 1st and 2nd grade students will attend school every day from 7:45am-3:45pm. Classes will be smaller than usual with 10-12 students in each classroom allowing students to spread out. Based on our parent survey results, our 3rd-5th grade students will come every day; however, they will only come in either the morning (7:45-11:00am) or the afternoon (12:30-3:45pm). All parents must register their children online. Returning student registration opens tomorrow (Wednesday, July 29th) through Infinite Campus. We are asking all parents to have their children registered by Tuesday, August 4th. This will allow us to know which parents are choosing remote learning only or in-person learning for their children. We then can separate students into the am/pm cohorts and let parents know which part of the day the students will attend. If you have a strong preference about your child attending in either the morning or the afternoon, please let the office know by Tuesday, August 4th. The office will also be open starting tomorrow for parents that need usernames and passwords for Infinite Campus in order to register students. We will have computers available for parents that don't have internet/devices at home in order to register. Please also keep in mind that the start date for elementary students has been pushed back from August 12th to the 17th. Look for more information soon about meet the teacher nights. These will be separated by grade level to allow for social distancing.

Online Registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now open and will close on Friday, August 7. All students (returning and new) will need to complete the online registration through one of the following links:

A Registration Hotline number will be available on Tuesday, August 4, for parents who need support completing registration forms. The Registration Hotline will allow parents to complete the forms over the phone and/or in Spanish. An in-person registration day is not available this year.
During registration, the parent/caregiver will need to select whether they would like to enroll their child in an in-person school (AES K-2, AES 3-5, OMS, AHS) or Alamosa Online (K-12 100% Online).
Parents/caregivers that choose to enroll his/her child into Alamosa Online need to understand that they are giving up their child’s in-person seat since health precautions have limited the size of cohorts. If parents/caregivers decide to move his/her child from Alamosa Online to an in-person school, it can take place at semester if an in-person slot is available.
Since K-2 students often need additional support to engage in online learning, parents/caregivers will need to identify a caregiver coach to support their K-2 child enrolled in Alamosa Online.

After much discussion, community and teacher forums, staff and family surveys, and conversations with public health and other county agencies, at the regular Centennial Board of Education meeting on July 23, the school board voted unanimously to begin the year with remote learning for all students. Initially, students will follow a 12-day staggered schedule by cohort for students to be on campus for two-days prior to beginning remote learning. Although students will begin the first few weeks of school doing remote learning, there will be opportunities for small, targeted groups of students to come to campus for additional support.

After September 1, the school will begin a process of evaluating when we might return to school in a hybrid format using an A/B schedule. For families who are not comfortable with any in-person days for the entire semester, they can register their children for 100% remote learning. Please be aware that you must use playgrounds at your own risk. City playgrounds will be disinfected every other business day. If playground equipment is wet and/or has a strong disinfectant smell, please wait until the equipment is dry before use. Please use playgrounds responsibly; remind children to socially distance as best they can and use hand sanitizer; or wash your children's hands before and after use.

Playgrounds are limited to 25 users at a time.

Heart and Eagle Mobile Unit will be located at the Mountain Valley School, 403 Pitkin Ave., Saguache, Colorado, to hold drive-thru testing on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, from 4pm-7pm, for residents of the Town of Saguache and surrounding areas. No Out-of-valley or walk-ins at this time.
