Fatal Accidents on I-12 Albany/Springfield Exit

Release from Albany Police Department

Chief Boyd Wild

The Albany Police Department is currently investigating two separate fatal crashes that occurred within the past several days on Interstate 12 westbound near the Albany/Springfield exit.

February 13, 2026 – Multi-Vehicle Fatal Crash

On Friday, February 13, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Albany Police Department received a call regarding a crash on Interstate 12 westbound, just before the Albany/Springfield exit. The crash involved two vehicles and an 18-wheeler.

Following investigation, it was determined that a sedan was initially traveling eastbound on Interstate 12. For reasons unknown at this time, the sedan entered the grass median from the travel lane and ultimately crossed into the westbound lanes of travel. After entering westbound traffic, the sedan struck the left side of the 18-wheeler and then was involved in a second collision with a truck.

Albany District One Volunteer Fire Department personnel were on scene to assist with extricating the driver and passenger from the sedan. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The passenger was transported with minor injuries. All other drivers and passengers involved in the crash refused medical treatment at the scene.

The deceased was later identified as David Kilgore of Mississippi. Next of kin has been notified.

February 15, 2026 – Wrong-Way Fatal Crash

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, at approximately 1:40 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 westbound near the Albany/Springfield exit.

The crash was dispatched as involving a small sedan and a recreational vehicle (RV) motorhome, with the sedan reportedly engulfed in flames upon impact.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the sedan entered the interstate traveling the wrong direction by accessing the westbound exit ramp at mile marker 32, for reasons unknown at this time. The sedan continued traveling against the flow of westbound traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with the RV. Following the collision, the sedan immediately combusted into flames.

The driver and passengers of the RV were able to safely exit the motorhome and sustained minor injuries.

After further investigation, it has been determined that three individuals have died as a result of the crash. The deceased has been identified as Jamie Pourciau of Albany, Bailey Lassabe of Albany, and her nine-year-old son. Next of kin has been notified by law enforcement.

Chief Boyd Wild stated, “These are tragic incidents for our community and for the families involved. We ask that everyone continue to keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers.”

Chief Wild and the Albany Police Department would like to extend sincere appreciation to the Albany District One Volunteer Fire Department, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, and surrounding agencies who assisted at both scenes. Their assistance in managing the incident and ensuring public safety were crucial to both occurrences including during the approximately five-hour closure of Interstate 12 On February 13, and the six-hour closure on February 15.

Both crashes remain under investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Albany Police Department.
