Chehaw is named in honor of the Chehaw people, whose history is deeply connected to the land.

For generations, Indigenous communities have maintained deep relationships with the animals and plants around them. Here at Chehaw, we celebrate that connection through the animals in our care and our efforts to protect wildlife and support conservation.

From the wildlife that once roamed these lands to the animals we care for today, every species has a place in the natural world worth protecting.

Today, we honor Indigenous history, celebrate the connection between people and wildlife, and recognize the importance of honoring the people and history tied to this land.

It's CROCTOBER!

Did you know alligators are part of the crocodilian family? That means our gators at Chehaw are part of an incredible group of reptiles that also includes crocodiles, caimans, and gharials!

This Croctober, we're celebrating the entire crocodilian family and the amazing adaptations that have helped these animals thrive for millions of years.
