These teenagers have been BUSY!

Our Junior Zookeepers just wrapped up their end-of-year awards ceremony, and we’re celebrating a BIG accomplishment: together, they completed 3,253 volunteer hours at Chehaw!

That’s over 3,000 hours of learning, helping care for animals, supporting programs, getting dirty, asking questions, and discovering just how much work goes on behind the scenes at a zoo.

We’re incredibly proud of this herd and all the time, effort, and enthusiasm they’ve brought to Chehaw this year.

Congratulations, Junior Zookeepers! You’ve definitely left your stripes on Chehaw.

Rattlesnakes are some of the most misunderstood animals in Georgia, and Chehaw is working to change the way people see them.

For many years, rattlesnake roundups have involved collecting wild snakes, which can put pressure on local populations. As part of our conservation efforts, Chehaw provides captive snakes for educational programs at these events, allowing people to learn about rattlesnakes without removing them from the wild.

Our rattlesnakes help us share an important message: these animals are not something to fear, they are an essential part of our ecosystems. By teaching people about their behavior and importance, we can help protect wild rattlesnakes for generations to come.

Happy World Lizard Day!

When you hear the word venom, you probably think "danger." Scientists think "discovery."

The Guatemalan Beaded Lizard belongs to a group of venomous lizards whose venom has helped researchers better understand the human body. In fact, research on beaded lizard venom has contributed to the development of medications used to help people manage type 2 diabetes!

It's proof that every animal matters, even the scaly ones.
