In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, CVSVC is collaborating with End-Tab to offer a training to all community members on Catfishing,Romance, and Sextortion Scams.
As technology and social media continue to play a larger role in our relationships and daily lives, online platforms can be used to manipulate, exploit, and control others. This training will explore how sextortion, romance scams, and catfishing can involve manipulation, and coercion, the emotional impact these experiences can have on victims, and how we can better recognize and respond to these forms of technology-facilitated harm. We hope you’ll join us as we continue raising awareness around tech-facilitated abuse and promoting safer, healthier relationships both online and offline!

Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center staff facilitate a weekly women’s psycho educational group at Albany County Correctional Facility called “Breaking Barriers”. Members of this group have experienced interpersonal violence at some point in their lives.
Many members in our group have identified as victims of sexual violence, both inside and outside of the correctional facility. We want to ensure their voices are heard and they are represented. Trauma can often lead to maladaptive coping behaviors, such as drug use, to help manage pain. Our group members are not violent offenders but rather have experienced trauma that has lead to unsafe behaviors and incarceration.
