A tip of the hat to Dolly Parton!

She brought us incredible lyrics and music. She fed families, supported wildfire victims, cared for her community and helped millions of kids read. She had an open mind, an open heart and did it all while showering the rest of us in sparkles and joy.

Let's all remember to Rest in peace!

So, yepโ€ฆ the burn ban is back in place. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿšซ

Owning it is the easy part. Keeping everyone safe is the important part. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we correct course.

Please hold off on all burning until the ban is lifted again.

We want to share a story of what can be accomplished when first responders and community members work together. The quick thinking and willingness of a group of young men, prevented a potentially dangerous individual from posing a continued risk to our community. We would like to recognize Rylan, Elijah, Walker, and Bailey.

On the afternoon of July 8th, AFD was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire at Timber Linn Park. The initial report came across as a fire in short grass; however, strong winds were rapidly pushing the fire east toward an area of tall grass, brush, and trees. Beyond that vegetation were structures along Goldfish Farm Road.

Engine 13 arrived to a quarter acre fire that had nearly reached the heavier fuels. Members of the City's Parks & Recreation Department were already on scene, working to slow the fire's spread until firefighters arrived. Engine 13 put out the remainder of the fire.

While suppression efforts were underway, the on-duty Battalion Chief began speaking with witnesses at the park. During those conversations, several young community members shared that they had taken photographs of the individual they believed had started the fire. Just minutes later, officers from the Albany Police Department arrived, obtained witness statements and photographs, and immediately began searching the area. By approximately 3:25 p.m., the suspect had been located and taken into custody.

The Albany Fire Department and Albany Police Department are grateful for their awareness, courage, and commitment to helping keep our community safe. Their actions exemplify the positive impact that engaged citizens can have during an emergency, and they deserve recognition for their outstanding assistance.

LINN COUNTY BURN BAN

Starting Immediately on August 3, 2026, the Linn County Fire Defense Board is taking proactive measures to address the heightened risk of fire by implementing a series of fire restrictions.

In alignment with ODF's assessment, the Linn County Fire Defense Board has announced restrictions on all open fires, including the prohibition of recreational and cooking fires originating from open fire pits that utilize wood or charcoal. This includes agricultural burning, but does not include the use of gas-fired barbeques or pellet barbeques.

The decision to enact these restrictions is in direct response to the increased fire risk and Red Flag Warnings expected this week. The Linn County Fire Defense Board will adhere to ODF's lead and uphold these limitations as long as the extreme fire danger persists. Restricting open fires is a critical component in managing local resources effectively.

Given the heightened fire risk, it is imperative that all individuals exercise extreme caution when dealing with fire-related activities, towing (chains), and recreational pursuits. Pacific Power has also cautioned about potential selective grid shutdowns to preempt transmission line issues, particularly in high-temperature and windy conditions.

The Oregon Department of Forestry and Linn County Fire Defense Board urges the community to stay informed, comply with implemented restrictions, and remain vigilant to mitigate the risk of fire incidents. Stay up to date by visiting the Oregon Department of Forestryโ€™s restrictions and closures.

Community members can also sign up for emergency alerts through the Linn-Benton Alert Notification System.

Last week, firefighters from Linn, Benton and Oregon State agencies responded to a wildland fire off Riverside Drive. Hand crews, engines and air resources were needed to extinguish the fire.

Fuels in Oregon are critically dry. We are seeing extreme fire behavior all over Oregon and we're just starting the month of August. Oregon is operating at a fire Preparedness Level 5 (PL5). This means resources are maxed, management of fires is at a critical level, firefighters are running at fatigue levels, and the fire response is operating at the highest level.

No matter where you live, everyone plays a part in keeping fires off the landscape.

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿšœ Dry grass is a watch-out. Grass is highly flammable and create fast moving fires.

๐Ÿ”ฅCampfires need to be cold to the touch. Follow all BURN BANS.

๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿš™ DO NOT park vehicles on dry grass and maintain your machinery.

๐ŸšญDO NOT discard ci******es outside.

โšก๐ŸŒฉ Follow local weather and environmental conditions.

ALBANY, Ore. โ€” July 22, 2026 โ€” The Albany Fire Department successfully contained a brush fire in Truax Park on Tuesday evening after a multi-agency response that prevented damage to nearby homes and resulted in no reported injuries.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on July 22, Albany Fire Department crews responded to reports of a natural cover fire in Truax Park, located at 34600 Riverside Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a large, fast-moving brush fire traveling east. Initial suppression efforts were challenged by difficulty locating the exact fire origin and limited access to the affected area.

As a precaution, a Level 2 ("Be Set") evacuation notice was issued for 35 homes along Riverside Drive. The evacuation notice was lifted at approximately 7:30 p.m. after forward progression was stopped and conditions improved.

A second alarm was requested to bring additional personnel and equipment to the scene. Mutual aid was provided by the Corvallis Fire Department, Tangent Rural FireDistrict, Brownsville Rural Fire District, Halsey-Shedd Rural Fire District, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Sweet Home Fire District's wildland hand crew, and the Linn County Sheriff's Office. Helicopter support was also requested through the Oregon State Fire Marhal's Office.

Forward spread of the fire was stopped at approximately 7:00 p.m. Crews remained on scene conducting mop-up operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and secure the fire perimeter.

During the incident, to maintain emergency response coverage throughout the City of Albany, the Albany Fire Department activated a third alarm. The Corvallis Fire Department and Jefferson Rural Fire Protection District provided additional resources to ensure continued service for other emergencies.

The fire is estimated to have burned between 15 and 20 acres. No injuries were reported, and no homes or structures were damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
