Earlier this afternoon, AFD responded to a gas leak located at the corner of 18th Avenue SW and Walnut Street SW. This was considered a large leak, 4” line @ 65psi, that occurred while NW Natural was conducting maintenance of underground lines.

A Shift firefighters on Truck 11, Engine 15 and Battalion Chief 11 maintained safety for NW Natural personnel while they conducted operations to stop the leak. No injuries were reported and no evacuations were necessary.

Each AFD Shift has trained members of the Hazardous Material Region 5 Team.

Burning conditions and regulations can change depending on weather, fire danger and air quality. Residents are encouraged to stay informed.

The Linn County Fire Defense Board is made up of local fire chiefs and chief officers who are authorized to make decision on behalf of their respective agencies.

THIS SATURDAY! May 16th. Your Albany Firefighters will be out at the intersections surrounding Fred Meyer on Santiam Highway and Waverly filling the boot for MDA! For anybody who doesn’t know what Muscular Dystrophy Association is, please look up all the good this money goes toward. Every penny that goes into these boots goes directly to MDA and our community has proven to be some of the best contributors in the state of Oregon! We’ll see you out there!

Mark your calendars! IAFF Local 845 and the Muscular Dystrophy Association team up again! Help us battle brutal neuromuscular diseases! Since 1954, the MDA has been the main charity of choice for our International Fire Fighters Union - raising more than $700 million dollars for research, treatment, therapy’s and ultimately finding a cure for those that suffer.

Warm Weekend Temperatures

It could be 85 degrees on Sunday. The Willamette River is currently 58 degrees. Hypothermia can set in after 10-15 minutes of exposure to 50-degree water.

Please be cautious this weekend:

✅ Hydrate by drinking water and electrolytes

"Successorship" isn't just a buzzword; it’s a responsibility.

Yesterday, we had Firefighters from two stations training together to become AIC Engineers. While manuals and computers are great for the basics, the real nuances of the job are passed down through mentorship and hands-on drills.

Seeing our seasoned employees share their "field-tested" knowledge with our future Engineers ensures our department stays strong and prepared. Great work by everyone involved today!
