Today our club got to hear from Dr. Alan Medley, a local ER physician, business owner, and founder of Peanut Better. We learned about the continuing crisis of children who are starving in the Republic of the South Sudan, which is where Peanut Better is currently focused on helping. The families are in a refugee camp, and have come from the Republic of the Sudan where war continues to displace millions, cause widespread violence, food insecurity, and a collapse of basic services. Peanut. Better is a fortified peanut butter based food that is high in calories, fat, protein, and other essential nutrients.

Our next artist spotlight for Empty Bowls is another artist that is new to our event, Blue Springs Pottery!

✨Blue Springs Pottery and Candles id comprised of Jay and Cathy Sanders, who work out of their personal studio in Sylvester, GA. Jay throws on the wheel, working on larger pieces and trying new techniques while Cathy hand builds smaller pieces that she uses for hand-poured, custom-scented candles. They will have a selection of bowls available at Empty Bowls this year!

✨Empty Bowls of Albany is a joint outreach that provides funding for the Albany Area Arts Council's Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Arts Competition and the Sowega Council on Aging's Home Delivered Food program that provides home delivered meal for senior citizens in the region.

Due to the increasing likelihood of severe thunderstorms and high winds beginning as early as 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, all Dougherty County School System schools and offices will be closed Monday, March 16, 2026.

We plan to resume normal operations on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. We will continue to monitor the weather situation and will provide updates as needed through the DCSS official district communication channels.
