Albany Fire Dept Chief Robert Roeper has been discharged from the hospital in Nashville today, and will be coming back to Albany en route to his home around 4:30-5:30 pm this evening. Members of the fire department will be escorting him to his house once he crosses the Kentucky state line. We will be escorting him north on 127 bypass to KY 1590, then taking 1590 into town on to his home. If members of the community would be interested in lining any part of the route to show your support for our chief, we know he would appreciate it.

Albany Fire Department reminds you that it's the "spring forward" time of year again, and you know what that means: change your time, change your batteries. Please test and change your smoke detector batteries in order to keep them functioning properly. You never know when they might save your life. This is a good read from the NFPA regarding the effectiveness of properly functioning smoke detectors.

This report discusses the presence, operation, and reason for failures of smoke alarms in reported home fires.

🚨 If you are going to get somewhere for heat, water, or food, do it during the daylight hours.
Preferably before 5 p.m. today because temperatures will start to drop then there after.
Do not wait until after dark, putting yourself more at risk, stay off the roads, and out of the weather as much as possible.
❄️ Temperatures will be dangerous tonight, please do not be out for any reason..
❄️ Plan now and get where you need to be..

There is still time to do most of these things before the impending storm hits. Be prepared and stay safe!
