Today, our department held mandatory training at the direction of Chief Fritz for all officers. The training was hosted and conducted by certified instructors.

Throughout the day, our officers participated in several realistic, scenario based exercises involving domestic incidents, shoplifting calls, active shooter situations, and interactions with individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

Our department believes that continued training and preparation are essential to providing professional, effective, and safe law enforcement services to our community and its citizens. We remain committed to providing our officers with additional training opportunities that go beyond the minimum training requirements established by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

We would like to thank certified instructors who provided today’s training, as well as our officers for their continued commitment to training, professionalism, and serving our community.

🚔 National Thank a Police Officer Day 🇺🇸

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank all of our Police Officers who proudly serve and protect our community each and every day here in Albany.

We especially want to recognize the dedicated members of our Reserve Officer Division, who volunteer their time to serve our community without pay. These officers take time away from their own families, jobs, and personal lives each month to help protect and serve others.

We are truly blessed to have such a dedicated Reserve Officer program and officers who continue to step up when their community needs them.

To our officers, our reserve officers, and law enforcement officers across the nation THANK YOU for your service, dedication, and sacrifice.

* Until 830 AM EDT.

* At 740 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near Montpelier to near Fairmount, moving southeast
at 45 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Muncie, Anderson, Elwood, Alexandria, Wi******er, Yorktown, Union
City, Albany, Frankton, Eaton, Daleville, Parker City, Farmland,
Summitville, Gaston, Selma, Ridgeville, Orestes, Saratoga, and Ball
State University.

This includes Interstate 69 between mile markers 235 and 251.

The Albany Marshal’s Office extends our deepest sympathy’s to the Fisher Family, the Lynn Police Department and Fire Department, and the entire Randolph County Community. Marshal Fisher was killed this morning while protecting and serving the community. Prayers to the family and departments in the coming days and weeks.

This year's Freedom Festival drew a large crowd, featuring great vendors and a joyful atmosphere for families and kids on Saturday evening. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all attendees for their support and to the officers, Delaware County EMS, and Albany Fire Department for their assistance throughout the event. The evening's festivities included a kids' race with various age categories, and a fun competition among officers for bragging rights, where K-9 Griffin had a unique advantage and won against all officers, but Officer Liggett emerged as the winner among his peers.

Attached is the parking layout for the Albany Freedom Festival. Taking place on July 11th, 2026. We will also have several officers on patrol by vehicle and on foot during this event.
