A few more of our award recipients!
Let's hear it for Officer Chris Burbey, Employee of the Year (pic L) and Detective Jason Camillo, Employee of the Year (pic R)!

Throughout 2025, Officer Burbey led his patrol team in both self-initiated activity and primary officer responses. He sets the tone for his team and elevates the effectiveness of the entire division.
He is known for his humor and being a good friend to all but also recognized often by the community as professional, respectful and effectiveness.

Detective Camillo has been a cornerstone of this department since 2003, serving as patrol officer, detective, and fi****ms instructor. His work ethic, investigative skill, and unwavering dedication make him one of the most respected members of the Support Services Division. During staff shortages, Detective Camillo has stepped up to take on child abuse and s*x abuse cases, some of the most demanding and emotionally difficult cases we handle. He accepts every assignment with a positive attitude, works thoroughly and never hesitates to support his fellow detectives.

It is an honor to recognize both of these outstanding employees.

But wait, there is more.
We still want to tell you about some more great awards that deserve recognition!
The Distinguished Service Award is presented to Property & Evidence Specialists Kaylan Beaulieu-McCann (pictured L) and Gretchen Westmoreland (pictured middle) and also Officer Trevor Eaton (not pictured) for their exceptional dedication and extraordinary work on one of the largest identity-theft investigations our department has ever undertaken.
For more than two years, Officer Eaton demonstrated remarkable persistence and professionalism authoring multiple search warrants, coordinating with detectives, conducting extensive follow-up with victims across multiple jurisdictions, and meticulously analyzing hours and hours of jail calls to uncover critical evidence. His commitment ensured no detail was overlooked.
Kaylan and Gretchen played an equally vital role. Their tireless efforts in processing, organizing, and presenting an enormous amount of evidence were essential to the successful prosecution of this huge case. Their combined efforts were instrumental in securing guilty pleas on all three cases and bringing meaningful closure to the many victims impacted by this criminal enterprise. Their diligence and teamwork exemplify the highest standards of distinguished service.

We know, we know, just a few more awards we want to tell you about from our award ceremony last week. It is not often we get to give such an honorable award to a civilian that jumps in without hesitation to save lives.

The Life Saving with Valor Award was presented to a brand new officer, Officer Setzer and Wyatt Adams for their extraordinary bravery and decisive action during a tragic incident on September 6, 2025.
Officer Lawson Setzer was off-duty and traveling back to Albany with his friend, Wyatt Adams, as they came upon a major collision where both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames and one driver was trapped in his car. Without hesitation, and at great personal risk, Officer Setzer and Mr. Adams ran to the burning jeep, pulled the injured driver from the vehicle and carried him to safety. Officer Setzer then provided critical care, working to keep the driver conscious until medics arrived.
Although this crash resulted in the heartbreaking loss of two lives, their courage ensured that one severely injured driver survived. Their willingness to run toward danger, their calm under extreme pressure, and their selfless commitment to preserving life exemplify the highest standards of valor.
We are proud to honor Officer Setzer and Wyatt Adams with the Life Saving with Valor Award.

Here is one of the well-deserved awards from our Award Ceremony this week at the City Council meeting.
Tara Williams, our very own Victim Advocate embodies the true spirit of public service. Since joining the Albany Police Department in 2023, she has supported more than 500 victims, helped secure over $79K in restitution for victims and also created the most welcoming and safe interview room for children and adults in crisis. She is also the Trust Team Coordinator, Bias Crime Reporting agent and a friend to all here at APD. She is so deserving of the Public Service Award and we could not be more proud of her non-stop efforts for victims and our most vulnerable community members.

We want to recognize these two exceptional officers (and two not pictured) for their superior tactics and fast response to a high-risk domestic violence incident on December 26, 2025.
Officers arrived to find an armed suspect who had assaulted his mother, threatened to kill anyone who pursued him, and returned to the home with a loaded handgun.
Sergeant Clausen (pictured L) maintained lethal cover and worked to de-escalate the situation while communicating directly with the suspect. Officer Felty (pictured middle) and Officer St. Pierre (not pictured) deployed tasers at critical moments, and Officer Rappe (not pictured) provided lethal cover to protect the team.
Their combined actions subdued the suspect safely, preventing what could have become a lethal encounter.
Their professionalism under extreme pressure protected the victim, safeguarded the community, and preserved life in the face of a deadly threat.
Their teamwork and judgement exemplify the highest standards of the Police STAR (Superior Tactics and Response) Award.

Ok, this is kinda a big deal...
We have 4 new Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (aka: The Police Academy) graduates to announce!
Four stellar new officers for our community, standouts in their class and one received the Marksmanship Award overall. Basically, the cream of the crop at the academy.

Please welcome Officer Lilliana Towne, Officer Jackie Daniel, Officer Ian Bruckner and sharpshooter, Jacob Claussen. (pictured from L to R in the center)
Need we say, the younger looking officers in this picture...🤭
