Northern Rivers Family of Services

Northern Rivers Family of Services In 1829 when a child needed help, the community called on us. Today when a child needs help, the community still calls on us. Some things never change.

We are a family of human services agencies providing help and hope to those who struggle with abuse, neglect, trauma, mental health challenges, educational difficulties, employment, and service navigation. But other things do. In 1829 we provided a warm bed, a good meal, and a safe place to grow up. Today we’re working to end the stigma around mental health care and help those in our care become h

ealthy, happy, self-sufficient adults. Today the help we provide might be telemental health counseling provided by a professional 100 miles away. It might be a family receiving a host of integrated services to help keep their child safe. It could be the support a young adult needs to find and keep the first job they’ve ever had—and it still could be that warm, safe place to live while a child heals and grows. Northern Rivers Family of Services hasn’t just changed with the times. We have led a service delivery revolution to meet the varied, changing, complex needs of children, adults, families, and communities. People still come to us for care, but now we prioritize going out into the community to help, providing services in homes, schools, even the neighborhood coffee shops. We’re coordinating care, bundling services, and developing comprehensive treatment plans that don’t just treat the symptom; we work to address the reasons people need help in the first place.

Yesterday, we were honored to be in the room as Governor Kathy Hochul signed the New York State Budget at the Blake Annex in Albany.

We want to thank the Governor and the NYS Legislature for their continued commitment to children and families across our state, including the 2.7% investment in Human Services. The Governor highlighted critical priorities like affordability, childcare, and family support issues that matter deeply to the families and communities we serve.

These actions and investment are an important step forward, but there is still more work to do. Our goal is to ensure that our families, communities and the Human Services sector can do more than just sustain itself; we want to see it thrive. We look forward to continuing our work alongside legislators, community leaders, and fellow advocates to create meaningful, lasting change for New York’s children and families.
