Due to the potential for severe weather conditions, all Dougherty County Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, March 16, 2026.

DELAYED OPENING NOTICE---Dougherty County Public Library branches will reopen to the public on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Regular hours of operation and all scheduled programs will proceed as planned.

Please note that the Southside and Westtown branches will open on Saturday, January 25, as scheduled.

Due to snowfall and current weather conditions, all Dougherty County Public Library locations will be closed Thursday, January 23, 2025. We will continue to update you as more information is available. Plans are in place to resume normal operations on Friday, weather permitting. On Saturday, June 15, 2024, and Sunday, June 16, 2024, the City of Albany, with the assistance of Dougherty County, will activate Operation Safe Place to give people a place to cool off during the day.

According to current weather reports, the heat index is projected to exceed 100 degrees over the weekend. Below is a list of library locations available to anyone needing a break from the heat and the times we'll be open. Water will be provided at each site.

Central Branch in Downtown
Address: 300 Pine Avenue
Hours of Operation
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Sunday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

The Northwest Library Branch
Address: 2507 Dawson Road
Hours of Operation:
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Southside Library Branch
Address: 2114 Habersham Road
Hours of Operation:
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Tallulah Massey Library Branch
Address: 2004 Stratford Drive
Hours of Operation:
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Westtown Library Branch
Address: 2124 Waddell Avenue
Hours of Operation:
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

We think everyone deserves to have a Pen Pal, so join us and embrace the art of snail-mailing hand-written postcards to strangers that are soon-to-be pals!
We're connecting similarly-aged people from Albany, GA to Albany, NY (because it's a fun idea and the awesome folks at the Albany NY Library agreed). We’ll have paper available at all of our branches but feel free to bring your own. Fill it out or drop off your message and we'll do the rest. All ages can participate.
