We kicked off our Texas America 250 Celebration at Fort Griffin State Historic Site today with a fantastic school day! We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow, Saturday the 10th, for our public reenactment day. Come join the history!

Fort Griffin's living history days begins this Friday at 9am! Come on out and experience the sights and sounds of the 1870s Texas Frontier! FREE for schools and homeschools!

Date and Time: Friday, October 9th, and Saturday, October 10th from 9am to 4pm

Location: Fort Griffin State Historic Site, 1701 North U.S. Highway 283, Albany, TX 76430

Admission: $10 per adult, FREE FOR SCHOOLS AND HOMESCHOOLS!

Don't miss this great chance to experience cannon fire, live music by award winning artist Devon Dawson and Jessie Robertson, the official longhorn herd of the State of Texas, infantry and cavalry demonstrations, and much more.

And when you need a break from exploring the 1870s, food and refreshments will be available on site!

Melissa’s and Happy Grill food trucks will be serving up food throughout the event, and Light’s Out Coffee will also be on site serving coffee and other refreshments.

Join us for On Campaign: A Program on the U.S. Army in Texas, 1871-1874, presented by our newest intern, Trevor Gould. Across the Texas frontier, these operations played a pivotal role in shaping the post-Civil War West. This is a great opportunity to get an engaging look at the soldiers, strategies, and events that defined this critical period in Texas history. Guided tours of the historic ruins of Fort Griffin, led by Site Manager Eric Abercrombie, are being offered following the conclusion of the program.

Are you ready to take your Milky Way photos to another level? Then come on out and join us here at Fort Griffin on Friday, September 11th, and Saturday, September 12th as we welcome professional photographer Lynn Cromer and his team of knowledgeable instructors for two days and two nights of hands on learning, different classroom sessions, and actual in the field photography of Fort Griffin's beautiful dark skies. We have limited spots available, so be sure to call and register your place!
