The Human Relations Commission was created by the Albany City Council in 2007 to promote a safe, just, and inclusive Albany. It works to ensure equal access for historically marginalized groups and addresses discrimination concerns through education and community resources. Here's a brand-new opportunity for Albany students in grades 9-12 to get involved in local issues. For the 2026-2027 school year, we are launching a pilot program that offers a youth member position on five of our existing citizen advisory groups. Selected youth will participate as non-voting members in group discussions, representing the interests and perspectives of Albany youth, and serving as ambassadors for civic engagement. Opportunities are available on the Airport Advisory Commission, Community Development Commission, Library Board, Parks, Recreation, and Tree Commission, and Transportation Advisory Commission. For full details, visit the link below. Applications are due September 27.
