Chairwoman Dr. Carolyn McLaughlin and Deputy Chairwoman Wanda F. Willingham joined County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and community partners for the announcement of more than $500,000 in new investments from Albany County’s opioid-settlement funds.

More than $118,000 will support five local organizations working in treatment, recovery, prevention, transportation, workforce development and other essential services:

• Healthy Capital District
• Hive of Hope
• Hospitality House
• The LaSalle School
• Second Chance Opportunities

An additional investment of approximately $400,000 over two years will support the Addiction Care Center of Albany in providing Certified Recovery Peer Advocates and credentialed addiction counselors at four IPH emergency shelters across Albany County.

These investments will help connect residents with treatment, recovery support and critical services at the community level.

The Albany County Legislative Black Caucus remains committed to supporting responsible investments that strengthen local recovery networks, reduce barriers to care and help individuals and families affected by substance-use disorder.

Fresh Food, Local Opportunity: The LBC Celebrates the Launch of the Pine Hills Farmers Market

Chairwoman Dr. Carolyn McLaughlin and members of the Albany County Legislative Black Caucus joined County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and community partners to celebrate the launch of the new Pine Hills Farmers Market at the former College of Saint Rose campus.

The market brings fresh food, local businesses, live entertainment and family-friendly activities directly to the Pine Hills neighborhood. It also represents another exciting step in bringing new activity and community-centered opportunities to the Saint Rose campus.

The Pine Hills Farmers Market continues every Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. through October 29.

The LBC is proud to support initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, expand access to fresh food and create opportunities for local businesses and families throughout Albany County.

Albany County Legislative Black Caucus Chairwoman Dr. Carolyn McLaughlin joined County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and GOLD Program participants to celebrate an initiative helping 948 older residents enjoy meals, spend time with loved ones, and stay connected to their community.

Through the Albany County Department of Aging, eligible residents receive eight meal vouchers valued at up to $22 each.

Community, connection and plenty of fun at National Night Out!

Chairwoman Dr. Carolyn McLaughlin and LBC members Danielle Gillespie and Mark Robinson joined the Albany County Police Department, local families and community members for a wonderful evening filled with activities for the kids, horses, great food and meaningful community engagement.

National Night Out reminds us that safer, stronger neighborhoods are built through trust, partnership and showing up for one another.

Investing in our community means supporting programs that create lasting change.

The Albany County Legislative Black Caucus, under the leadership of Chairwoman Dr. Carolyn McLaughlin, applauds County Executive Daniel P. McCoy’s announcement of the reallocation of $241,000 in remaining American Rescue Plan Act funding to four initiatives delivering meaningful results for Albany County residents.

Deputy Chairwoman of the Albany County Legislature and Caucus member Wanda F. Willingham joined community partners for the announcement.

The funding includes:

• $100,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region to expand youth mentorship, career exploration and leadership opportunities.

• $62,000 for Park Playhouse to preserve accessible summer arts programming and support local artists and performers.

• $58,000 for the Pride Center of the Capital Region to support PrideFest, expanded youth and senior programming, and community art and wellness initiatives.

• $21,000 for the Capital Behavioral Health Network to continue its addiction-counselor training partnership with Maria College through Fall 2026.

These investments will strengthen our workforce, support young people and underserved communities, expand the behavioral-health workforce, preserve accessible arts and cultural programming, and help Albany County residents thrive.

The LBC remains committed to advocating for responsible investments that produce measurable results and build a stronger, healthier and more inclusive Albany County.

Last Friday, Albany County hosted the 2026 Special Programs and ACIF Grant Awards Ceremony, awarding more than $366,000 to 48 organizations serving communities across the county.

Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham and Deputy Chairwoman Wanda Willingham recognized the dedication of this year’s recipients and the meaningful work they do every day. These grants will strengthen parks and playgrounds, women’s health programs, anti-bullying initiatives, anti-tobacco education, and many other vital community services.

The Albany County Legislative Black Caucus proudly congratulates all of this year’s grant recipients! Your work continues to uplift our neighborhoods and improve the lives of Albany County residents.

Albany County Legislative Black Caucus member Danielle Gillespie for Albany County Legislature Danielle Gillespie joined LBC staff for Senator James Sanders Jr.’s Legislative Breakfast Briefing during his annual Upstate Banking Tour.

The briefing brought together elected officials, financial institutions, MWBEs, and community leaders for important conversations about strengthening New York’s banking sector, expanding opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses, and advancing economic equity and reparations across our communities.
