8/27/26: 12:19 pm - Gas Leak Odor Response - The Albemarle Fire Department was called at 9:56 am for a report of a gas leak odor at Atrium Health Stanly hospital. AFD and Stanly County Emergency Services responded. Emergency Management contacted regional hazmat and worked with AFD to ensure there was no threat to the public. The hospital is working with a cleaning crew to remove the product which produced the odor.

The City of Albemarle Fire Department is honored to join Pfeiffer University on September 11, 2026, for their Memorial Stair Climb in remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

This event invites our community to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who climbed the towers that day. Participants will complete 37 laps of the four-story stairwell at Pfeiffer University's Center for Health Sciences. This commemoration honors the commitment, bravery, and resilience shown by those who answered the call on 9/11.

Whether you climb as an individual or with a team, your participation helps ensure that the legacy of service and heroism is never forgotten.

On September 11, 2026, the Pfeiffer University Center for Health Sciences, in partnership with local first responders, invites you to join us for a Memorial Stair Climb as we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

8/10/26 - At approximately 2120 hours on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the Albemarle Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 800 block of W. Main Street. Responding units observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. Fire personnel brought the fire under control and quickly extinguished it.

The house appears to be vacant. No injuries were reported. The home sustained fire damage throughout the structure.

Per protocol, the Albemarle Fire Department Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.

Flash Flood Warning 7/13/26 - The US National Weather Service Raleigh NC has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Monday, July 13, 2026 until 7:45 p.m.

With storms in the forecast that could bring flash flooding remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Most flash flood tragedies happen when people attempt to drive through floodwaters. If you can’t see the road, don’t risk it—turn around!

If your vehicle stalls, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground. Floodwaters can rise quickly, cover your vehicle, and sweep it away.

Flash floods develop fast and can be extremely dangerous. Stay alert and stay safe!

The Albemarle Fire Department always enjoys Big Truck Day at the Stanly County History Center! Kids had a blast running through the spray from the fire truck and beating the summer heat.

As temperatures rise, remember to stay cool!

Dangerous heat can sneak up on anyone, so it’s important to know the warning signs of heat illness. According to the American Red Cross, watch for:

• Heavy sweating
• Cold, pale, or clammy skin
• Fast, weak pulse
• Nausea or vomiting
• Muscle cramps
• Tiredness or weakness
• Dizziness, headache, or fainting

Heat exhaustion is serious and may require emergency medical treatment. If you or someone around you shows these symptoms, act quickly, get to a cooler place, and seek medical help if needed.

You may have noticed blue, fluorescent rings on fire hydrants around Albemarle.

The Albemarle Fire Department is adding these reflective rings to make hydrants easier for firefighters to spot during emergencies, especially at night or in bad weather. It’s a small upgrade that can make a difference when seconds matter.

These new markers are just a small example of how AFD is always working to find ways to keep our community safer.

Training Notice: Live Fire Exercise Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Albemarle Fire Department will be conducting Live Fire Training on Saturday, 6/20/26 in the area of Hwy 52 South and Russell Rd at a vacant house.

What to expect:
• Russell Rd will be closed from Riley St.
• Training will take place between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM (at the latest).
• Smoke will be visible in the area during this time.

This is a planned training exercise, and there is no cause for alarm. These live burns help our firefighters maintain essential skills to keep our community safe.

AFD Responds to Residential Structure Fire - At approximately 1:02 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Albemarle Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of Arey Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from a single‑story residence, and the Shift Commander established command and upgraded the incident to a working fire.

Firefighters initiated an interior search while crews performed a 360-degree assessment and began ventilation operations. Residents reported that all occupants had exited the home but that two dogs were unaccounted for. Crews located one dog inside the structure, removed it safely, and provided oxygen before turning care over to EMS. A second dog was confirmed in the backyard. Both dogs were later released to the owners for veterinary transport.

City utilities responded to secure power, and additional fire companies assisted with search, ventilation, water supply, and overhaul operations. The fire was brought under control at 1:32 p.m., approximately 30 minutes after dispatch.

The Albemarle Fire Department’s Fire Marshal conducted an on‑scene investigation, and the American Red Cross arrived to assist the displaced residents. All fire units cleared the scene at 2:49 p.m.

The Albemarle Fire Department thanks all supporting agencies (Station 65/65, Station 34, Station 28, Stanly County EMS, APD) and commends the quick work of firefighters in controlling the fire and ensuring the safety of residents and their pets.

Investigation determined the fire started in the home's kitchen on a stovetop.
