It’s the time of year when the air smells like freshly sharpened pencils and laughter drifts across the school yards. For many children born with , however, a new school year is not a happy time. Before receiving surgery, Antonia was relentlessly bullied and tormented by her classmates because of her . Often, Antonia would come home from school in tears, telling her mother that she no longer wanted to study. The terrible names she was called were too painful and persistent to endure.

When she returned to school, once her lip was healed from surgery, the other children were awed by Antonia's beauty.
