If you’re running on public highways and streets, do you know the rules of the road? Always know when, where, and how to drive legally, and get the required equipment on board.
In addition to Iowa State laws, Albia City ordinances place further restrictions on ATV, UTV, and golf cart use within city limits. ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts cannot be operated between sunset and sunrise. These vehicles also may not be operated on the primary routes through town—Highways 5 and 34—or on any roadway with a posted speed limit of 30 MPH or higher, unless you are in the scope of your duties of agricultural business (getting gas for farming, etc.).
These are a few of the many sections within the Iowa Code and Local ordinances regarding UTV/ATV/golf cart usage. Now – it's time to do your homework! Are you in compliance with State and Local Ordinances? Find out at the links below!
State Code – 321.234A --https://www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/code/321.234A.pdf
Local Ordinance – 62.12 -- https://albiapd.com/city-code-of-ordinances
(Iowa Code 321i.10 (5) allows cities to regulate ATV/UTV operations).

As the weather gets warmer, we’re seeing more kids and families out enjoying bike rides around our community — which is great to see! ☀️🚲

Recently, we’ve received concerns from both drivers and bicyclists regarding unsafe behavior on the roadways. This is a good reminder that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

🚴 Riders:
• Stay alert and pay attention to traffic
• Avoid stopping or playing in the middle of the roadway
• Ride predictably and move over when vehicles are approaching
• Wear helmets and use hand signals when possible

🚗 Drivers:
• Slow down in neighborhoods and residential areas
• Watch carefully for children on bikes
• Give bicyclists plenty of room when passing
• Stay patient and attentive behind the wheel

A little extra awareness from everyone can help prevent accidents and keep Albia safe for all. Let’s work together to make this a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone out on our streets. 💙

The Monroe County Public Health Department has dropped off several Simple Kit Roth ID Tags to the police department, and they also have additional kits available at their building for families in need.

These Roth ID Tag kits attach directly to child car seats and contain important emergency information such as:
• Emergency contact information
• Child’s name
• Allergies or medical conditions
• Important notes for first responders

These tags can be extremely helpful during emergencies such as vehicle accidents, abandoned child calls, medical emergencies, or any situation where quick access to information could make a difference.

Not only can these kits assist police officers, firefighters, EMS, and other first responders, but they may also help members of the public who are trying to assist during an emergency.
We would like to help spread the word and encourage families to take advantage of these free safety kits. If you are interested in getting one, stop by the Albia Police Department or the Monroe County Public Health Department for more information.

Today, officers from the Albia Police Department had the opportunity to attend a grill out at Homestead. Who knew they could top our fun we had with them during breakfast. We enjoyed some good food, great conversations, and even a few games of bags with the residents.

We truly appreciate the invitation and the chance to spend time with members of our community. Thank you to everyone at Homestead for the hospitality and for making it such an enjoyable afternoon!

K9 Program Update 🚔🐾❗️

The Albia Police Department is incredibly grateful for the unwavering support from our community in helping bring our K9 program to life.

Because of YOU—our residents, local businesses, and supporters—K9 Uschi (which translates to little bear in German) has successfully completed his training and is now fully certified alongside his partner, Chief Pritchard. This achievement belongs to our entire community. Your generosity, encouragement, and belief in this program made it possible.

K9 Uschi is more than just a police dog—he’s a symbol of what we can accomplish together. He will play a vital role in keeping our community safe, and we are proud to have him serving the people of Albia.

From all of us at the Albia Police Department, thank you for standing beside us, supporting us, and believing in this program. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Your support and our need for donations doesn’t stop here. As always, any additional funds will continue to help Uschi and the department. The funds will specifically go to supplying Uschi with food, and any vet visits (emergency or normal care). If you’d like to donate, don’t hesitate to come visit as Uschi would love some pets from everyone!

The Albia Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and ADLM Emergency Management are currently on scene at the airport and surrounding properties responding to a natural disaster.

Based on initial observations, the damage appears to have been caused by straight-line winds or possibly a small tornado. Emergency personnel are actively assessing the situation, checking for hazards, and ensuring the safety of those in the affected area.

We ask the public to avoid the area to allow first responders to work safely and efficiently. Please stay alert for further updates as more information becomes available.

Our thoughts are with those impacted, and we appreciate the cooperation and support of our community during this time.
