At approximately 20:14 pm August 21 Grundy county communications center was notified by Marshall county communications center of a possible Morton building fire, after multiple 911 calls and volunteer fire fighters on their way to the station, it was confirmed to be a fully involved building fire. It was soon to be found that the contents of the building included two semis, a tractor and round baler and multiple tools and other necessary items to run a trucking business. Upon arrival crews fought a fully involved approximately 60x60 machine shed fire that upon arrival already had partial collapse and it was determined at that point to be a defensive attack only. With quick thinking of both county communication centers, multiple area fire departments were toned out for mutual aid. The fire was deemed under control at approximately 22:10 pm. Crews were on scene until roughly 23:15 pm doing overhaul and finding hot spots. At this point in time the cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to be caused by the round baler. Beaman fire department sends out a heartfelt thank you to Conrad fire department, BCERT, Green Mountain Fire, Liscomb Fire, and Albion Fire, Grundy county sheriff, Marshall county sheriff, and both county communication centers for their assistance with this unfortunate event. There will still be some smoke lingering around, and possible rekindles. Please be mindful of the area.

Thank you to local passerby’s and local farmers for quick thinking in saving the other two semis that were outside by the building that was on fire.

A thank you to S R Anderson Farms & Carver Kitzman for the use of their telehandler to pull metal off so we could get to hotspots.

Our sincere apologies to the homeowners if this tragic loss as the majority of their livelihood was lost tonight, please keep them in your prayers.

This means the sirens will no longer be a manual switch and can be automatically triggered at the first sign of severe weather. Thank you Prairie Meadows!

On Saturday, July 18th, the Albion Fire Department hosted a Vehicle Extrication Training led by Jerry from Professional Rescue Innovations.

Training like this is essential for ensuring our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively when every second counts. We were also grateful to train side by side with members of the Liscomb Fire Department.

A very special thank you to the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau for the funding that made this valuable training opportunity happen and to Lonnie Hogeland Sr. at Hogeland Auto Plaza for generously donating the vehicles used during the hands-on exercises. Your support helps us continue building the skills needed to better serve our communities.

With all the rainfall we would like to remind everyone to drive carefully and safely in your 4th of July travels. NEVER attempt to drive through water covered roads, be cautious of hydroplane conditions, and be aware that gravel shoulders will attempt to suck you into the depths of very flooded ditches. No one wants to meet us this way, so please travel safely.

Due to a branch catching fire on a power line at the trailer park on the north side of Albion, power will be out to select homes until Alliant can remove the branch and restore power. If power being out is prolonged and people need to cool off please contact the mayor, Logan Kelley 641.751.7864, for access to the fire station.

Due to the major thunderstorm this morning multiple limbs and trees are down some with powerlines pulled and LP gas tanks damaged. Please be aware of your surroundings when traveling this morning as debris is everywhere and crews will be out working.

Reminder to be patient with Albion city officials, energy crews, and LP crews as they work on services and clearing roads.
