We are aware of the controlled burns taking place on Cameron Ridge and are monitoring. We wanted to share our observations to illustrate that conditions are not favorable for large fire spread. These are the type of conditions we are looking for to perform prescribed and controlled burning. We took another reading at 14:00 with similar results, temperatures rising a little and the probability of ignition(PIG) going up to 20%. Still well below the threshold for alarm. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Firefighter I Christion Schoenfeld. Christion trained and responded alongside our crew, and some of you may remember meeting him at our Annual BBQ this year. Our thoughts are with his family and CAL FIRE colleagues.

CAL FIRE regrets to share the passing of Mendocino Unit Firefighter I, Christion Schoenfeld, who passed away in an off-duty accident. This was Christion’s third year with CAL FIRE, with two previous fire years as a Handcrew Firefighter in the Amador-El Dorado Unit. Most recently, he was assigned to the Woodlands Fire Station in the Mendocino Unit.

Firefighter Schoenfeld will be remembered as a motivated, goal-oriented public servant, whose exceptional physical fitness and dedication inspired those around him. Please keep Christion’s family, friends, and his CAL FIRE brothers and sisters, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Meet Milo — our unofficial morale officer and the goodest boy on the coast. Whether he’s guarding Engine 8181 or supervising his Mom’s workouts in the bay, Milo takes his duties very seriously (especially the treat inventory 🍖).

You may have seen in our intro that we promised occasional dog cameos… consider this a pawsitively perfect one. 🐶🔥

Tsunami watches are an advance notice to areas that could be
impacted by a tsunami at a later time. Watch areas may be
upgraded to a warning or advisory status, or canceled,
based on new information.

At 425 PM Pacific Daylight Time on July 29 an earthquake with
preliminary magnitude 8.7 occurred 80 miles southeast of
Petropavlovsk Kamchatka.

Crescent City California 1155 PM.PDT. July 29.

Due to lack of personnel, individual meetings will no longer be announced on this page.
