The Edwards County Sheriff"s Department is the chief law enforcement agency in Edwards County, the Sheriff Office is located in the Edwards County Courthouse, we are the primary law enforcement agency for the unincorporated areas of the county, we provide assistance on a daily basis to the municipal police departments located within Edwards County. The Edwards County Sheriff's Department is the pr

imary provider of dispatch services for the emergency service agencies located in the county, these include the Sheriff's police, the Albion Police Department, the West Salem Police Department, The Edwards County Ambulance Service, The Albion, Bone Gap, Browns, Little Wabash, And West Salem Fire Departments. The dispatch center also serves as the enhanced 911 call center for Edwards County. Duties of the Sheriff and his Deputies:
Enforce statutes of the State of Illinois, enforce Edwards County Ordinances, carry out order of the Court, serve civil process papers, handle security for the Edwards County Courthouse and Courtroom, the Sheriff is the caretaker of the courthouse. The Edwards County Sheriff's Department is responsible for all persons arrested in Edwards County if they are unable to make bail no matter if they are arrested by county, city, or state police. It is the responsibility of the Edwards County Sheriff's Department to transport prisoners to and from jail for any reason (court, doctors appointment etc.) . Edwards County has a holding cell only, we do not operate a jail, all prisoners are housed at the White County Jail located in Carmi, Ill.

Overnight Closure on I-64 Wabash River Bridge near Grayville in White County.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that all lanes of Interstate 64 over the Wabash River near the Illinois-Indiana state line will close overnight Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27 for emergency bridge repairs.

Closures are scheduled nightly from 7 pm to 7 am, weather permitting. The work is expected to take two nights to complete.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices.

Closure is expected Tuesday, May 26 to Wednesday, May 27 from 7 pm to 7 am.
