Highs in the 90s are expected away from Lake Michigan most or potentially all of this upcoming week along with high humidity. Some locations may reach 95 or hotter at times. Heat index readings of 100-105 are forecast with 105-110 possible especially Tuesday through Thursday. Lakeshore regions will certainly be cooler as the lake is currently in the 60s, and with southwest winds the heat impacts will be lessened at times especially from Muskegon to the north. Those without cooling will really begin to feel the impacts of this prolonged heat, with even overnight temperatures not providing much relief. Outdoor work exposure will be problematic in these types of temperatures with prolonged activity increasing the risk for heat illness.

Showers and storms will continue to batter some of southern and central Michigan over the next 36 hours, as of April 15th, 2026.

Rainfall totals have continued to shift further south for the latest batches of precipitation ongoing today, tonight, and then again tomorrow. Most precipitation prior to sunrise tomorrow will occur south of I-96 and west of US-23. Thursday, southeastern Michigan and the thumb gets in on the action for both severe thunderstorms and rainfall. Highest totals appear to be in the 1.5-2.25" at this time according to latest trends, but localized pockets of 3" cannot be ruled out, especially as high resolution models denote heavy thunderstorms (meaning larger rain drops within individual cells) later tonight.
