We join the Space Force in offering our thanks to our many spouses who support our members. Space RCO does require a lot from our members at times and they couldn’t do what they do without the support of the spouses behind them.

Today, we celebrate all Military Spouses and offer our gratitude for the countless sacrifices they have endured. #MilitarySpouseAppreciationDay #SemperSupra

Space RCO is committed to both expanding our insights into the industry base that could support our efforts, and to growing the next generation of space leaders! Having an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) intern from the UC Berkeley
allows us to do both! We are thrilled to have Cadet Colonel Ryan Chen from AFROTC Detachment 085 join our team. His Detachment wrote a nice article in their newsletter about what he’s going to do for us.

I applaud all the hard work that has gone into the organizational planning of the forthcoming stand-up of Space Systems Command (SSC). SSC will have a big job, and will be well postured to leverage the increased agility forged under “SMC 2.0” and Lt Gen John Thompson’s leadership. I look forward to continuing the cooperation and coordination Space RCO and SSC have established to help the Nation move forward by fielding the right space capabilities on the schedules needed by our warfighters! –Mike Roberts, Space RCO Director and PEO”

AIA: Hill, DoD Must Change Relations For Faster Space Acquisition

There’s a lot to unpack here, but suffice it to say that SpRCO is only able to do what we do because nearly all of these suggestions are structurally imbedded. We delegate every acquisition authority to lowest level, from having Senior Military Leaders with Milestone Decision Authority, to every SpRCO contracting officer bringing $1B of full authority and autonomy to the negotiation table.

That said, there’s some risk in assuming all space acquisition should be accomplished at the same speed and with reduced oversight. We go faster because our statutory mission calls for it...because we are addressing urgent, threat-driven space capability needs. We should not devalue those major, strategic space acquisition decisions where analytical rigor, discipline and more robust risk management are required to be effective.

https://breakingdefense.com/2020/12/aia-hill-dod-must-change-relations-for-faster-space-acquisition/

Since its creation last December, the U.S. Space Force has been charged with rapidly countering growing threats in an increasingly important domain. To successfully meet this mission, the service will have to adapt in a number of ways. One of the most vital tasks will be reforming an acquisition pro...

Our Story

The Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) was born out of the 2018 National Defense Strategy, which noted that legacy acquisition processes were over-optimized for exceptional performance at the expense of providing timely capabilities to the warfighter. Thus, the SpRCO was stood up by law in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act and the Operationally Responsive Space Office was stood down. Leveraging the mindset, processes, streamlined structure and oversight mechanisms of the Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office model, and by maximizing partnerships across the Space Enterprise, the SpRCO is rapidly executing multiple space lines of effort filling critical gaps for the nation.
