Rep. Gabe Vasquez is still demanding answers from the Department of Defense for the chaotic closure of the El Paso Airport in February. It looks like he will get them.

Because of language inserted by Gabe, the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act requires the Department of Defense to explain in writing what caused the sudden closure of the El Paso Airport and to say how the agency will prevent it from happening again. The bill also has an amendment pushing the DoD to share information on the safety and feasibility of drones that it’s using and testing in southern New Mexico.

Today we’re introducing Blue CD2 NM’s new “moonshot” web pages. They are researched summaries of how New Mexico’s governor, state office holders, and state legislature “reached for the moon” to tackle long-standing problems like poverty, education, health care, an un-diversified economy, and the need to transition to renewable energy sources. Our elected leaders have also made it their mission to protect people, public lands, and democratic processes in our state.

It turns out, if you aim high enough, you can overcome gravity!

New Mexico is proving that economic growth and clean energy can go hand in hand. The state exceeded its 2025 renewable energy goal, generating nearly 60% of its electricity from renewable sources in 2025. This progress is creating jobs, supporting public schools, and strengthening local economies.

Renewable energy projects are also generating revenue for schools, universities, and hospitals. A new wind farm in Torrance County, for example, will power more than 60,000 homes and provide nearly $100 million for public schools over its lifetime, helping drive long-term prosperity across the state.
