Over the last 20 years, Emerge New Mexico’s Emergistas have created positive change across our state and nation.

During that time, 497 brave women and non-binary leaders have participated in our Signature Program or Bootcamps, gaining the guidance, skills, and tools to pursue public office.

Today, 118 Emergistas are serving in elected office, from school boards to Congress, leading with purpose and a commitment to creating a safer, stronger New Mexico for all.

This November, 41 Emergistas will be on the ballot in the midterm elections, continuing Emerge New Mexico's legacy of preparing and empowering the next generation of public leaders.

We are beyond proud of our Emergistas, and we are grateful they chose Emerge New Mexico to be part of their journeys. đź’™

We are excited and honored to announce that Bernalillo County Commissioner for District 3, and Class of 2017 alumna Adriann Barboa is the 2026 Emerge NM Woman of the Year!🏆

Adriann Barboa is a dedicated community organizer, mother of two, and grandmother who serves as the Bernalillo County Commissioner for District 3. Having experienced firsthand the impacts of substance misuse and gun violence within her own family and community, Commissioner Barboa has committed her career to reforming the systems that fail families struggling with addiction, housing instability, and the justice system. By building deep collaborations across city, county, and state governments, she works to establish robust infrastructure and vital direct services.

Guided by community input, she has successfully led county initiatives to expand affordable housing, invest in social safety nets, and increase public health access. Commissioner Barboa firmly believes that solving complex societal problems requires listening to those most impacted, ensuring that, when vulnerable communities thrive, everyone thrives.

Come celebrate Commissioner Barboa’s achievements at the 2026 Wine & Chocolate Gala!

We are honored to announce that Albuquerque City Councilor for District 6 and Class of 2023 alumna Nichole Rogers is the 2026 Emerging Woman of the Year!🏆

Councilor Nichole L. Rogers is a trailblazing public servant, community advocate, and the first Black woman elected to the Albuquerque City Council, representing District 6 with a commitment to courageous leadership, equitable opportunity, and building bridges across communities to deliver meaningful results.

Councilor Rogers has built a reputation as a collaborative and effective policymaker, maintaining a 90% legislative pass rate while earning support from her conservative colleagues on 66% of the legislation she has sponsored.

Before joining the City Council, Rogers served as the City of Albuquerque's African American Community and Business Liaison, strengthening partnerships between government, businesses, and historically underserved communities.

As a Councilor, she has championed efforts to expand housing opportunities, strengthen behavioral health investments, and ensure redevelopment projects create lasting benefits for surrounding neighborhoods. She led the creation of Albuquerque's African American Advisory Board, launched Participatory Budgeting to give residents a direct voice in public spending, and has advanced the community-centered redevelopment of the New Mexico State Fairgrounds through transparency, accountability, and equitable economic growth.

Nichole has helped lead NM Juneteenth, growing it into one of the state's largest celebrations of Black history, culture, entrepreneurship, and community. She was selected for the 2026 Champions Institute, joining leaders from across the country working to build healthier, more resilient, and more equitable communities.

Another successful training session in the books!

We want to thank all our esteemed instructors who came to impart their wisdom and guidance for our cohort to use on their pursuits of public office. We want to especially thank Santa Fe County Commissioner Camilla Bustamante for her Debate and Forum practice session. We also wish to thank Felicia Salazar, Deputy Campaign Manager for Deb Haaland for New Mexico, for her sessions on messaging and presenting on camera/mock interviews.

Thank you to AFT New Mexico for hosting us once again in their fantastic facility—your continued support will never go unappreciated.💙
