A fresh coat of paint can do more than brighten a building—it can help create a sense of welcome, dignity, and community.

Over the course of a two-day volunteer beautification project at Gateway West, volunteers helped create a more welcoming and dignified space for residents experiencing homelessness. On the first day, volunteers from Calvary Church dedicated their time and talents to painting the shelter's entryway. In addition to volunteering, Calvary Church generously provided the painting supplies that made this project possible. On the second day, community volunteers joined the effort, continuing the work and demonstrating the power of collective action by finishing the trim and the stairway.

A heartfelt thank you to the volunteers from Calvary Church and all of the community volunteers who contributed their time, energy, and care to this effort. Your service helps build a more compassionate, connected, and welcoming Albuquerque. 💙

Hey there!💗
My name is Joanne Kumi, and I am a part of the Job Mentorship Program through the Youth & Family Service's Department, interning at the Office of Civic Engagement over the summer!

I am about to be a senior at Explore Academy Charter School, and I am so excited to work with all the awesome people in the office and make a meaningful impact this summer on some exciting projects. I love to sing, perform in musical theatre, laugh, and spend time with friends and family.

From Seasons of Non-Violence to Pride, there are always opportunities to give back to our community, and I intend on taking them. I am grateful for the Job Mentorship Program, which has a team of spectacular people who provide teens with summer jobs all over ABQ workplaces. I am so grateful for JMP and everything they do! Go Volunteer! And apply for JMP's internships! Spread the love! 🌸☀️🌺
