New Mexico Water Conservation Alliance virtual meeting on Sep 21 at 11AM!
"We are excited to invite all of you to join us at our upcoming New Mexico Water Conservation Alliance meeting on Wednesday, 9/21, from 11 am – 1 pm. We have an exciting agenda planned with Andrew Erdmann in his new role as the State’s Water Planner, leading us off to talk about the State Water Plan for the State or New Mexico. He will be followed by a presentation by the Bureau of Reclamation on mandatory conservation efforts along the Colorado River Basin. Both presentations will help the membership understand the work being done currently to conserve water, reduce demand and expand reuse and recycling of water supplies in the region. The Albuquerque City Water Utility Authority (ABCWUA) and the City of Santa Fe are among several cities in New Mexico who are signatories to an agreement to join in the commitment to increasing water-use efficiency and reducing the demand for water in the lower basins of the Colorado River. The presentations will help set the background for a roundtable with the membership on ways we are attempting to meet the water challenges at hand."

Exciting news! Ciudad SWCD was just awarded the Trails+ Grant from the Outdoor Recreation Division of the Economic Development Department to expand access to the outdoors to people of all abilities.
Ciudad SWCD was awarded almost half a million dollars to build a trail that will be all inclusive and will go above and beyond ADA standards. We'd like to give a huge shout out to Nature Matters Academy and Hero's Path to Palliative Care! Jenny Lloyd-Storvas and Theresa Aragon with Nature Matters Academy and Jennifer Bartz with Hero's Path played a huge role in the brainstorming and grant application process. The award of this grant could not have happened without these wonderful partners who put in countless hours alongside Ciudad to draft the application and supporting documents. In addition to this grant funding the trail materials and other outdoor infrastructure, it will also fund riparian restoration and removal of invasive species since the trail will run along the degraded arroyo. Such riparian restoration will be in line with the improvements outlined in the EPA approved Upper Tijeras Creek Watershed Based Plan that Ciudad SWCD finalized in December of 2021.
More great things are coming soon in the Tijeras Creek Watershed, but we will pause to celebrate this exciting win for conservation and access to the outdoors with this award!

Atrisco Community Farm open house and compost tea demo
2215 La Vega SW (just north of Blake and La Vega)
Saturday, Aug. 28th 10AM-noon
Please join Atrisco Community Farm for a tour of our fall fields and gardens and a compost tea demonstration! This simple and easy-to-implement technique can increase fertility by stimulating the microbial and mycorrhizal life in your soil, making the nutrients already present more bio-available to your crops. This work was supported by a grant from the NMDA Healthy Soils Program, in collaboration with Ciudad SWCD.
We look forward to sharing what we've learned about compost tea and exchanging knowledge with other local gardeners. Topics will include:
> show and tell worm box
> discuss compost tea ingredients/bubbler etc.
> share how we think tea has helped/apply a premade tea, look for mushrroms/mycelium
> time to chat about our other projects and connect
