HR VP Dorothy Anderson and staff presented the document to the Facilities and Finance Committee September 5, 2017. F&F took no action. URGENT!!!!
Yesterday, the UNM retiree Association was notified of a proposed 30% to 44% increase in health care premiums for Post-65 retirees during the upcoming open enrollment. Members of the Human Resource Department announced the proposed increases in a presentation at a Board of Regents committee meeting.
The full Board of Regents is scheduled to take action on this proposal when it meets next Tuesday (September 12, 2017) at their monthly meeting that begins at 9 am in the Student Union Building Ballroom C.
Your Board of Directors and the Association's Benefits Committee are currently exploring a multi-faceted approach to this emergency situation. Please check your email, the Association's web site at http://retiree.unm.edu or our page frequently as this is a fluid situation that may change quickly. Thank you.

Anita Obermeier, Chair of English, sent this to us earlier today. I pass it along with many tears. It is with a heavy heart that I write to pass on the very sad news that Dr. Helen Damico passed away yesterday, having been diagnosed with COVID-19 a few days beforehand. Dr. Damico. our colleague, teacher and friend, was the visionary founder and long-time director of the Institute for Medieval Studies at UNM, the creator of the Spring Lecture Series--IMS's flagship event and one of the longest running public-facing events at UNM—, and the architect of the Medieval Studies graduate program in English. She had truly brought Medieval Studies to the desert, as she liked to say.
I met with a new Retiree Member today and wished there was a monthly get together. Is there one? We used to meet once a month at a restaurant on Central, maybe Denny's. I would like to see that happening again, however, I would like to have the meeting not early in the morning. I am retired, after all. Elevenish is a great time for me. If the Association doesn't want to do this, I would guess any members interested in doing this on our own could do it. We had a great time discussing some of the problems we have and it helps when you have someone that may be having the same problems and could possibly have information that would help you. I would like to be more involved with the Association.
Does anyone else feel really frustrated about paying their bill through Banner? I had Auto pay until my identity was stolen and I have had to close bank accounts and credit cards on various occasions and Banner is such a frustrating software to use because it is not something I use every day so it is like seeing it for the first time each time I have to use it. Then, I don't even want to talk about the aggravation dealing with the password. Maybe the Association could have a class with a little Cheat Sheet on how to attack that Behemoth?
